Re: [COMCAST] i-Guide Massachusetts

Has anyone heard of the launch date for the new guide in Massachusetts?

Re: I got the new guide.

S. NJ is run differently than the rest of the state. You're part of the "corporate HQ" region of Philly.

Comcast NJ - Union/Verona

Not sure how much more info you can have since pretty much everything i-Guide has been covered here:

and here:

Anyway, unless you have the 6412, the i-Guide losses much of its pizazz.

You'd think they'd try to keep the "corporate HQ" region as top quality as possible. You wouldn't know that from the amount of problems I've had in this area

They fix one thing (sometimes over a year after I report it) and then something else breaks. The local techs in the area aren't too helpful either (they completely dismissed my packet loss problem and onDemand audio problem).

Any way, I checked out the new guide and it's faster, but I don't really care since I use TiVo's guide. The only thing I like is the channel bar disappears a lot faster. It's set at 2 seconds, but it seems like it is gone in less than a second.

Just some things I noticed:
1. Weather is now 5 days (nice)
2. Only 3 days worth of channel lists (don't care, got TiVo)
3. Bar disappears quicker (good).
4. No Ads
5. Either 3 or 6 lines of channels in the guide (setting in guide settings).
6. Channels that contain on Demand content are marked as such.
7. Timers gone, replaced with reminders/record.
8. No help

Some other things I noticed about OnDemand:
1. New stuff is marked new (nice).
2. LC? Does this mean last chance?

BTW, what is everyone choosing for a color? The default blue is okay, but not great. Most look horrible.

Well, I just got confirmation that the new guide will not be coming to my system until next year. There's only one more maintenance window for the year and there's not enough time. Like I said, let them work out the bugs, besides, I too have a DVR superior to Comcast's, its called a TiVo.

If you live near Alviso, California, on December 17th they're giving away free TiVos!

I do have to admit, since getting an HDTV, I don't watch TV through the TiVo anymore, so I am using Comcast's tan guide a lot more often, so it would be nice to get an improved guide. Like I said though, I'm patient.

I doubt anyone waiting on Comcast's 120 gig HD DVR with all it has to offer would want that - free - bottom of the line, 40 gig, single tuner, non HD paper weight called Tivo.

When the blinders come off, all Tivo fan boys will see that Tivo's days are numbered.

Isn't this a bit of an oxymoron? I also have HDTV, but since I have the Moto 6412, I can still use a DVR with it. My opinion, that makes it far superior to a Tivo...but like I said, it's my opinion.

Not at all. I still go online and schedule my TiVo to record things. I still use it to view photos and listen to music via my home theater system and I still watch recorded programs, including stuff recorded on the HDTV channels. I still get 99% of the functionality of the TiVo. Also, if I want to, I could always watch live TV through the TiVo, but except for when I want to watch something in HD, I rarely watch live television.

I went with onyx too, but I like the stock colors as well. Most of the alternates are weird. I was hoping for a red one, but the only option they have is this dark red which doesn't look so great. Then again regular red would probably look weird as well...

Was at a Christmas party in Delaware county (outside Philly) last night - my buddy's 2500 box had the I-Guide. Was cool to see the differences b/t that and the DVR box I have - the guests were all commenting how great they were liking their new guides as well..

I was told early January for my area. They still have to work out some bugs. I hope they get it fixed by then.

Yes, LC means last chance. This is a great feature. The NEW tag is also nice. It makes it easier to find something that you have not gone through yet, and things that will soon be gone. There are more enhancements coming down the road. There will eventually be tie-ins with Comcast Digital Voice service.

Re: [COMCAST] i-Guide

Comcast NJ - Union/Verona

Well... well... Looks like the 14th and 15th past with no i-Guide. What a surprise. I have to wonder if anyone reads my posts or maybe they are just wishing I'm wrong.

I'm being told Comcast customers in New Jersey should expect to see the i-Guide in the first two weeks of January.

There maybe some issues with certain STB's (6208) and they may not get the i-Guide.

If and when I get anything more I will post it here.

Re: [COMCAST] i-Guide Massachusetts

Well, I live in Ashland. At the end of October there was a message on the box saying it would be installed sometime before November 6th, then there was something else I read either in a bill or on the webiste that mentioned a date around Novermber 20th. That was the last date I heard, and it is now December 19th. No new guide, no explanations as to why not.

mbernste . . . I know you get all this inside info so I was wondering if you could give me an update? I use the Hi-Def 5100 Motoroal box. Thanks so much! :0) . . . can't wait till this horrid tan guide gets off my systmem. I also have a scientific atlanta analog 6800 box i believe. How come when comcast changed my channels, the channel ID number never changed with it? Also, some are there (are the wrong channel,) and some are just completly missing.
