This kind of stuff actually happens all the time. Not necessarily raw sewage but contractors damaging homeowners' property and what not is pretty routine. Keeps the insurance folks in business. |

I've seen some crappy installs but this takes the cake. I'm sure there are a lot of puns to go with this one. Thanks again Comcast! |

Why was the coax installed through a drainage pipe in the first place? There wasn't ANYWHERE else to run the line or what? |

Installing jack in kitchen--- drills through the wall---- and right through the main sewer pipe in the wall. Then he fishes the cable through the wall (AND through the sewer pipe) and installs the jack. Of course the cable makes a great natural blockage point for the line and from that point forward sewage is leaking around the co-axial into the wall cavity and down the sheetrock and under the kitchen cabinetry.... starting it all rotting, mold, mildew, etc.
I can see accidentally hitting the sewer line. It was PVC. What I can't see is fishing the cable though the sewage pipe and not noticing anything wrong. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

| Some technicians hate to do wall pulls.
Many technicians do not want to do a wall pull to install inside wiring. There is a risk of damaging electrical wiring or puncturing something. This incident is a perfect of an accidental puncture of a hidden pipe. Many years ago a "professional" installing something in a private home drilled through a Natural Gas Line. Unfortunately the installer failed to find a way to shut off the gas before the Ka-Boom. (Ka-Boom quoted from Marvin the Martian, Looney Tunes 1966.) |

This is an example why you should licensed and bonded contractors... if they screw up, you need it fixed and in all likelyhood your homeowner's insurance will not cover it because it was caused by a contractor. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

Years ago when I was in the biz I used to see this sort of thing all of the time. Usually a homeowner instructed some poor contractor where to drill, and the end result was a damaged water pipe or cut power wires. People, if you want it done right remove the drywall and run all new phone/cable to demarc. Have a reputable contractor do the work, or you will find a diminished home value when it comes time to sell. Bottom line is people are too CHEAP to do it the right way. |

@optonline.net | Is that even comcast work?
The cable coming through the PVC doesn't look to be crimped with compression end. I think they just attached a Comcast cable to their home depot wanna be cable and tried to call the blame on the cable co. |

There have been multiple times too where work crews around here have had to do digs in many places, had a USA survey done, which located everything correctly, and they STILL hit stuff like this.
Considering he had to do this kinda blind, its not shocking it happened-though you would wonder why he was drilling an AO under a kitchen sink. I don't know if I would suggest locating a TV near that area. My mom has a TV in her kitchen, but we put it away from the stove and sink purposely since you probably don't want it near water (its electric) and not near the stove (which can shoot steam and other stuff into the air when cooking). It seems like a very unusual place for an AO. |

| Comcast instals.
Ha ha ha ha ha... If you are a Comcast employed installer then you are covered by THEIR insurance. If you are a self employed contractor and many are then you probably work for a little dinky Jo-Blow cable contracting company that has a contract with Comcast.
These guys are off the street guys who happen to have a truck or a van and go out with someone "experienced" for about two weeks to learn how to be installers.
Now granted, cable work ios not rocket science and just about anyone with mechanical skills can do the work but there are some really stupid guys out there who KNOW how it should be done but since they get paid by the job and a particular job is going to take them 3 hours they'll take the easy route and do a crappy job just to get it done and get on to their next job.
When you work for Comcast as an employee you probably go out with about 5 jobs for the day but if you're a contractor you go out with 15 jobs a day because the contract rate is so low you need 15 jobs to make a decent wage for the day. Problem is it puts everyone in hurry up mode so contractor4s usually do the worst the work. Now that's not to say ALL contractors do the worsrt work. When I was worked for Comcast and DirecTV as a contractor I saw some really crappy jobs that were done by the "inhouse guys." |
