| Not surprising though... this is more like a wireless co.
Bell is throttling so that they have more bandwidth available for their video service...and so that competing video service may be out of luck. Bell's DSL landline sounds more like a wireless company's stand. You can consume all you want, as long as we have an ownership/profit arrangement in that company. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

So you go after Cogeco, and get someone onto a DSL reseller... Which actually puts money back into Bell's pocket. Good plan? |

I think it's more along these lines....
Bell Marketing: We are going to be launching our new Video store soon.
Bell Management: But there are other stores out there, how will we be able to compete with them?
Bell Marketing: Simple, we have our network engineers degrade the service on all others, we own the pipes after all, that way everyone will be forced to go to our product if they want good performance.
Bell Management: But what about the ISP's we lease to?
Bell Legal: Oh don't worry....we had a poison pill buried in all of our contracts in case.

Bell complains they have congestion in their network, so they throttle P2P and some other streaming media formats. This prevents competitors from delivering users to Sympatico customers. Bell also throttles the connections of wholesalers that buy aggregation services from Bell, so in effect, all DSL subscribers in Ontario/Quebec can use Bell's services, or nobody else.
That's a tad anti-competitive, doncha think? Walmart doesn't MAKE you shop there, they just drive everybody else out of business so that you don't have a choice. Same thing here, except worse; it's like Walmart is boarding up the doors on other peoples' stores to stop them from accepting customers. |

| Don't they have a cap?
Yes they do 60 GB. So are the movies downloaded from their store counted against the cap? If yes, don't expect many customers. Who is going to risk an overage free just to download a movie? If not then they'll have huge anti-trust issues. Download a movie from them and it doesn't count against cap, but download the same movie form Amazon and it does? can you say LAWSUIT? |

Too bad we can't sue Bell in lawsuit-friendly Texas or Mississipi. The operative slogan after consumers winning against Bell in a venue like those would be "All your company are belong to us" - as paraphrased the text in manuals which often come with no-name peripherals from China. |

The store has a limited selection of 1,500 movies and TV titles, playable only by Windows users, and protected by Windows Media DRM (mmm, excited yet?). Rentals range from $2-$5, and movie purchases cost up to $20 (usually $5 more than Amazon). Interested in playing the media on a mobile device? You have to own a mobile player by Archos, according to the website. Sounds enticing, Mr. monopoly.
