I'm guessing they will be offering some kind of product/service that ties together Verizon Wireless phones with fios internet acesss. Maybe something like T-Mobile's Hotspot@home service.

I'm going to be a little more cynical and say they are announcing that they are going to start suing every VoIP provider, including but not limited to just Vonage.

Hopefully this will set the standard for other companies to follow, but I doubt it. I have fiber service through a local ILEC, but the closest competition is Time Warner with a paltry 384Kbps or 512Kbps upstream speed.
This is likely to one-up the cable companies who can't come close to matching the upstream this will offer until DOCSIS 3.0 is deployed.
Kudos to Verizon for this if it is in fact the official unveiling of a 20/20 tier.

They can't even get 20/5 out to customers in some areas (yes, we have "competition") and you're dreaming of 100/100?

As far as I'm concerned, the only "groundbreaking" news I want to hear from Verizon is that they're finally laying optical fibre to my neighborhood. (It's all underground utilities here, so they don't really want to spend the money). |

20/20? Nah.
You guys still don't get it. To us geeks, FIOS is all about faster internet access.
To Verizon, FIOS includes internet access only because the market forces them to. To Verizon, FIOS has always meant one thing -- THE method to compete with the cable companies, ans grab a big piece of that proven cash cow - selling TV.
I'm guessing this is all about announcing some wizbang interactive/video/on-demand/yadda-yadda offering. |

...in my parents' town. Why do I say them and not me? Because they live in a Verizon area, while I live in an SBC area. So...no FIOS for me.
I can only hope for FTTH at faster than DSL speeds, or hope I run into lots of cash and get a fractional OC3 or full DS3. |

I would love to be proven wrong on this prediction, but it's seriously what I think.
Hopefully by then it'll be possible to get T1 service at less than $250/mo. (for the sake of rural areas). |

Nah...they'd never do that. How would they make any money? Besides, I don't see it happening unless Verizon purchases SBC (Oops I mean AT&T), Embarq, Qwest, and every single little regional telephone company.
Although if that really happened that would be great. |

Who knows, but the PS3 is doing this with KT in South Korea so it could be this for the 360 in the US.
I doubt it's going to be a 20/20 tier though it would be interesting if they offered it to everyone across the board.
It'd really take the thunder out of the cable companies period.
Still they need to fix thier HD capacity issues.
