| Big flag
The e-mail purporting to be from IRS Criminal Investigation falsely states that the person is under a criminal probe for submitting a false tax return to the California Franchise Tax Board.
Since when dose the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board have any connection ??? Kind of a big flag there I would think ! -- If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well. |

Most of the news stations here ran a piece when the IRS first posted the details way over a week ago (May 31).
The correct link for the story should be the original source:
and not some copy of it by some random news outlet.
If we read the entire story, we can see that the trojan threat is just the tip of the iceberg. Most likely the trojan threat will be neutralized by AV software for all users that run updated AV.
Equally serious are the IRS camouflaged phishing scams (e.g. promising a tax refund) that entice users to divulge financial account information. |

Not to mention would you really expect the IRS to do this via e-mail for a criminal investigation? That would give you a great opportunity to leave the country and avoid prosecution or not come back if you are out of the u.s. |

Honestly, by now, if you're dumb enough to fall for this sort of thing, you DESERVE whatever happens. The sad part is that there ARE people that fall for this sort of thing, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it.
Truly sad. |
