On another note...

Tell me where to mail the check! Personally, I'd be happy to send $1,000 to download all the pirated, non-DRM, music that I could get my hands on within 180 days (about 6 months). In that time, I'd have about every song ever published & recorded!

Deadbeats

I hope the RIAA issues many more lawsuits against all the deadbeats...mainly a bunch of teens that are just like mommy and daddy...people who are the leeches of society!

I am not defending the RIAA. The RIAA are the same as the person into illegal files...criminals. It’s just funny to see two types of crooks complain about the other.

He's right, though.

95% of this site seems to be pro-piracy. Whether they have the guts to admit it or not, piracy is illegal. So those complaining about the RIAA (which really does suck, of course) really don't have much of a leg to stand on. Sure they're major jackasses and sometimes get the wrong people, but I bet 95% of the time the people they get DID steal music/softwawre/movies/whatever.

So it really is funny that crooks are bashing crooks. I'm guessing the average age around here is about 16 since few seem to grasp the irony...

How are you counting the grandmother as part of the 95% of guilty people? I was including people like her in the 5% that were falsely accused.

Looking at your point in another way, if so many of these people are completely innocent where is the mass of court cases taking on the RIAA? If they're sure they're innocent they would go to the courts with the assumption that they'd get their legal fees returned when they won. Why pay them off if you're totally innocent?

No, the reality is that the vast majority of people caught in this are guilty of some sort of illegal activity. One thinking otherwise is either very naive or just ignoring facts because of anti-RIAA or pro-piracy bias.

The vast majority of victims of these extorions can NOT afford a lawyer or any sort of viable legal defense without bankrupting themselves first and having their lives turned completely upsidedown.

The grandmother (and the few others) put up a fight because they had the time and enough resources to bring to bear.

Most everyday people are terrified of the U$ Ju$tice $y$tem and for good reason....

Bear in mind, these suits are civil suit filings. Meaning the defendant NOT the plaintiff, must offer the burden of proof he/she did not do as was accused.

All the diaRIAA , had as evidence was to tie an IP address to a blank, John Doe (fill in the actual name) paper lawsuit, taking both those guilty and innocent to kangaroo court. Where the diaRIAA offered a "settlement" or pay much more if you can not prove we (the RIAA) are/was wrong in court.

I have no proof, yet I believe the diaRIAA, had a gag order tied to each persons acceptance of extortion.

Could I sue you in civil court & take you to the cleaners.? Yes. Would I actually do so? F**K no.

If you live in America you're almost certain to be guilty of something. Title 26 of the U.S. Code is over Eight THOUSAND pages long. (The last time I checked: 2003)

At that rate most "laws" are meaningless. Ya gotta look at them as guidelines. Just because some second rate politico decides to flex some muscle after some third rate corporate thug sends him a check doesn't make it "right."

If I drive 80 mph in a 70 zone it's going to cost me over a hundred bucks. A grand for "stealing" Louie Louie?

Unless the RIAA change their tactics ignore them

So far they have only gone after the poor and either the poor and elderly or the very poor and young. I can tell you they get the wrong person or persons in the wrong country and they'll do more than just lean on them. They want to see tomorrow and they don't want to see the courthouse. That's all you have to know.
