This is crazy

This is just stupid on there part. Colbert has basically admitted on air he knows he gets a lot of publicity from youtube. I'm not one to usually complain about this sort of stuff since it is their legal right. However, the business logic of this move is awful.

This is funny

considering I'd rather watch show clips on youtube than going to every individual tv station website for a specific show, (which is littered with so much crap 90% of the time) which is more trouble that its worth.

so problem solved. i just won't watch the clips at all anywhere.

Crap

Youtube's video quality is crap anyways, why would someone watch a show off of it?!?!

I prefer it.

I just went to the Comedy Central site, and in plain view was a link to go to 'videos'. From there I was able to pull up HUNDREDS if not thousands of videos from every show on CC.

The quality was decent, I could go fullscreen, and instead of sitting through an ad before each video, there was a static one in the corner.

In this case, not only will I prefer their site over youtube's, but I may actually watch clips from shows I wouldn't normally sit through on TV (all the while taking in the purty ad on the screen).

Imagine that.

Re: Crap

I can't watch Youtube's pixelated crap videos!

At least CC has decent quality video of their own shows.

I guess you'll have to stick to saving it in better quality than seeing it in youtube's low res, low bitrate stream. The horror.

Comedy Central - Killing the Goose

Wow, the television execs are yet again showing they truly don't 'get it'. People WANT to watch the clips on the internet. And people WILL watch the clips on the internet. Using the DMCA to 'takedown' material is going to backfire on them in a big way. I personally download the torrents, because the quality (xvid) is much better than the streaming crap rate you get from youtube, but that's just me.

Why don't the executives see the light? The people WANT to download the TV shows. Comedy Central should provide high quality Divx format versions of their shows on their websites. They should run their own trackers. They should EMBRACE the technology, not hide they heads in their asses. It never ceases to amaze me that these fat cat moron executives think that just because they made money in the PAST with a certain business model, that they think they have the right to make money in the FUTURE. They are like the old horse and buggy makers. We don't see many of them around anymore because, bluntly, technology changed the world, and the world advanced without them.

Did you even bother to look at Comedy Central's site before you posted that?

Re: Crap

Most people aren't motivated or smart enough to "figure out" Bittorrent or Usenet, so I'm sure getting rid of the Youtube files will cut out 95% of the pirated watching of the shows for Comedy Central...mission accomplished.

Colbert can't brag anymore...

In one of his shows, Colbert proclaimed his momentous achievement of having 2300 videos pop up whenever you search his name on YouTube. So much for that now. At least I nabbed all the old Produce Pete segments before YouTube yanked them. I'm sure people will flow back and keep dumping Colbert/Daily Show vids on YouTube or some other video sharing site now. Can't wait for the next YouTube to show up and grab visitors away.

the ONLY way for google to see the error if their ways, is to NOT USE THE SERVICE!
no matter how much you are tempted to see a clip, check the link, if its youtube.. screw it! don't be lured in!
Only with your support does youtube's buyers feel confident that youtube was worth 1.65 billion dollars.. without you people, it's worth NOTHING!

Uhhh, if you want to boycott something (and they never work anyway), then you should boycott the folks who want their work removed. Why is it YouTube's fault the copyright holders don't want their work distributed on another's website.

It certainly wasn't YouTube's decision, so what bitch do you have with them?
