| Good for Apple but...
I'd rather just settle for a cellphone that is simple: no music, no video, no camera, no games. Something that is black, solid, easy to read (in glare), easy to access (raised buttons), no delicated port/jack covers to finagle with, doesn't pickup face oils, has long standby and small enough to fit a shirt pocket (and textured so it doesn't slide out of every storage place, but not need an ugly or cumbersome case). Yes, it better have Bluetooth (many states have handsfree law, and more car makers are adapting..finally).
I recal Moto's first Flip phone that has the RED LCD display. I hint that Motorola has the sale potention for a "Retro" phone with upgraded tech (better reception, battery life, hinges, sound...)
Don't get me wrong, I do think there is need for a phone that can do it all (Windows OS or even Mac OS, contacts, email, web,...) but I've gathered that many folks just want a plain o'l cellphone. Yes? |

| Get a Nextel. Mine has gone through hell when I worked in construction, meaning it fell off roofs, got covered in thick roof paint, dust all over and the outer case looks horrible. But that phone is still working and it's not even military grade.
Mine is the i710, I heard the i560 is way more reliable.
By the way a RED LCD display would be awesome, include orange as well. |

Having a photo capability all the time since I always carry a cellphone anyway is a nice feature. But like you, I find all the other capabilities useless. -- -- Join Red Room Forum BLOG tkjunkmail.blogspot.com My Web Page |

| reply to cableties I don't need a MP3 player, a camera (sucks anyway), a FM receiver, or the rest of that crap.
All I want is a dam phone that gets a strong signal and has 5-7 hrs of battery life.
If they had't added all that crap to my phone, I bet my battery life would be 3 times as good. |

| If you don't use that crap, it doesn't affect battery life. Pretty simple.
It's also funny to hear the same people (not necessarily the OP) complain about high tech phones because they don't need it but will cuss up a storm because their 8mbit connection isn't enough. Guess what, most people dont need 100mbit connections either. |

| The best idea I would think would be if you were to just load the songs from your computer to your phone or if Verizon or Cingular offered a monthly data subscription to the iTS such that you paid something like $4.99/mo. for the bandwidth and then paid Apple $0.99 for each song... that sort of thing works with text messages and existing music stores I don't see why iTunes would be any different. -- »web.mac.com/jwsmiths/iWeb |

| Should be interesting
It's simply a phone for the nitch market such as Helix. It is designed and will be marketed for those who want the features that this phone will offer, which will be the 15-30 something crowd. I am sure that the phone will have features that are far superior to anything that is currently available right now. Camera quality on phones is alot better than the VGA crap that currently dominates the market, I have a Samsung T809 with a 1.3 mp cam and it ROCKS, there are a few cams that have upwards of that. If you are working on a construction site like the person above does, then I really don't think a fashion phone from Apple is the wisiest of choices. I can't wait til it comes out because apple tends to surprise people and unveil products that are both cool and useful. |

| reply to Michieru2 I know their coverage is pitiful in New York as I can NEVER reach my friend who lives in the area. Every single time I call him it's the same old "ring three times and go to voicemail" routine while he never gets a single ring on his end. That or the "please hold while the Nextel subscriber you are trying to reach is located" -- which, of course, their system is NEVER able to do.
To sum it all up, my friend is absolutely disgusted with them and has been looking forward to Nov. 2nd when his contract is set to expire with great anticipation. He's been talking about switching to Verizon which apparently many of his friends (including myself) have and which has much better coverage than Nextel in pretty much any part of the country. |

| I know your not lying because I heard of similar stories. But when the time comes and I head to NY I would see how the coverage is there. I don't do business with Verizon even if FIOS did come to my area.
I drove around most of Florida and always had good ignal but I am not going to compare nextel with verizon since that would only lead a flame war between people here. |

If it was sold at a fair price, has iPod like controls, I'd buy it. Having a clickwheel on a phone would make browsing through contacts a breeze. Just please include T9 or something, and do not make me depend on a clickwheel to dial numbers or text. |
