I believe this move by Time Warner/ AOL is a direct result of Google's previously announced 1 Billion Dollar investment of AOL

As a shareholder of Time Warner whose stock has been dead money for quite some time now this just might hopefully be the beginning of good things to come for TWX with their AOL as well for Google..

| Its all now free I just got this email, don't need to even call them, its officiallly free for byoa! --------- Dear AOL Member,
I want to let you know about some exciting changes happening at AOL. Our service has always provided both a way to connect to the Web and an entertaining online destination once you're connected.
Today we are announcing that AOL's software, email, and many compelling AOL features -- including your Address Book, Screen Name, the Buddy List® feature and more -- will be free to everyone with an Internet connection.
What Does This Mean for You?
Nothing about your service arrangement with us will change unless you want it to. Your current plan, which includes 24/7 customer support, unlimited email storage, your email addresses and all the AOL content and services you rely on, will still be there for you.
Even if you choose a different high-speed provider from the one you use to connect to the Internet today: You can keep your AOL Screen Name and email address for as long as you want to use it, completely free; You can continue to use your AOL software, and you can still get all your favorite features and content, completely free; You will still get the most comprehensive free set of safety and security tools available, plus world-class, high-speed content like video, music and more. All of this is free, no matter who provides your Internet connection.

| I do predict... That the changes the CEO predicted for September will be AOL's closure. Or a rebranding.
And the world will be so much better then.

| lower dial up price I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but AOL lowered their price on unlimited dialup... they now have a 9.99 plan... with unlimited usage... i was listening to the announcement, and on one of the slides they still have the 25.90 plan, and it included everything... with the 9.99 being alacarte... i wonder what will be included in the 25.90..and i hope they don't get rid of the 25.90 high speed plan, which i have... | |

But one thing I did notice that sucks -- AOL Radio drops down to the same level of XM offerings as AIM accounts.

| Re: lower dial up price By the way, there is a keyword, if I remember correctly: AOL Keyword: Free ; that will let you choose your price plan of Free, or the $10/month plan which includes unlimited dial-up access. For me, the choice was simple, save the $15/month and get NetZero Free for dial-up service should we need it.
You can dial-in without their (NetZero) "dialer with ads" program by setting up a simple Dial-Up access using Windows XP's dialer. All you need is the username, and password.
By using the AOL Keyword: Free, you will save yourself some time on the phone.

| AOL - 900 Registry Entries I haven't used AOL since I ran Mac OS 7.5 (about the only thing that was easy to configure dialup). Just bought my son a new Dell and was removing all the unnecessary "Dellware" along with the AOL stuff, ran Tuneup Utilities registry cleaner and came up with 900 errors (some was the Dell software leftovers I'm sure). No thanks!! | |
