Comments on news posted 2005-11-15 10:37:09: When we mentioned yesterday the success that Linksys has seen with the WRT54GS, largely thanks to third-party firmware, several users noted that the v5 edition of this router is, for lack of a more poetic word, crap. ..

Also - crappy support across lines

I purchased a business router/switch. They had three models. The first one I bought was the lowest cost model. I found it did NOT support NAT. I bought the medium priced model and after weeks of tinkering and being promised a beta update of the firmware, was told by their OUTSOURCED tech support - there is no beta and the NAT doesn't work - and I can't tell you if they are working on fixing it. I wound up exchanging for the top of the line model that worked - however I dared not to upgrade the firmware for fear of more bugs. The most irritating thing about Linksys was the AWFUL OUTSOURCED UNKNOWLEDGIBLE tech support. I had to explain NAT to over all but one of the operators!!

Why the concern over the lack of memory

Its not really needed anyways. When and IF people start to see or even use a 50MB pipe then it MIGHT be an issue, the real issue isnt memory but processor speed.

So while its not 32MB/8MB thats really not all that important given that it can still be modified with 3rd party software and its not 30$ more its priced the same given all the rebates being offered.

It also works with Verizon FIOS 30/5 package just fine.

sticker

You know it's a Version 5 if it has a PCworld sticker on the front.
