Protect yourself: use IMO & IMHO a lot

"Given the context, no reasonable person could have interpreted these statements as being anything other than opinion. ... The statements are, therefore, incapable of a defamatory meaning," he wrote.

The Delaware court was the first state Supreme Court in the nation to consider the question of naming anonymous bloggers.
So if you are going to call people names in a forum, protect yourself. Use "in my opinion"; "IMO"; "IMHO", etc. That may keep you from getting sued someday by an irate official or other potential famous person target of your ire. Of course, you can't defame other anonymous posters if they haven't identified themselves in a forum either because to defame someone other readers of the forum have to know their true identity.

imho your post was useless and a waste of space and to top it off you smell funny.

lol sorry couldn't resist. Interesting article though, I am surprised that the "Gahill" comment didn't draw more interest though.

play nice now

If you don't want to be mocked and ridiculed, then don't become a public official, or do anything else that would put you as the center of attention for anything.

Just my opinion though.

Re: play nice now

Better yet if you're a public official don't raise a stink when you are criticized and ridiculed in some little message board. Otherwise red flags will pop up all over the place to add to your reputation even further ridicule and mockery.

I would never have known Cahill was such a sue-crazy crybaby if he didn't go to Supreme Court and made such a stink about it.

...of course that's just my opinion.
