1 edit | What /will/ happen. I can tell you right now; if the iTunes music service has its plugged pulled, apple will simply create a firmware patch for the iPod which would allow it to be used with any other music service app/media player. That way iPod sales would remain the same.

| The sad part of this story... As much as I despise the Music Industry and their greed, the real problem is with "us"..the consumer. The music industry can pull all this crap and the consumer just sits back and takes it.
How many people will sit there and complain about how much they hate the music industries tactics...and then stop by walmart on the way home from work and buy a cd? There are very few people that will actually stand up for what they believe..because usually standing up for a belief requires some personal sacrifice.
That sad part to this story is that the consumer base is turning into flock of sheep. There is a lot of complaining within those ranks...but the MAJORITY of the sheep just go wherever they are being herded.
I admire Jobs for standing up to the industry and I hope he continues to stand up to them...but in reality, this isn't Steve's fight. Its ours...the consumer...and so far we are all just sitting around and taking whatever crap the music industry dishes out. Steve won't be able reform the industries ways...only we can with our wallets.

| Its coming.... I have a feeling we'll be seeing $1.25 + songs in the ITMS soon enough. Record labels are just going to band together and tell Jobs to raise the price or no contract renewal. If Jobs refuses then I'm sure MS will be all too happy to raise the price of its music as they invented the word extortion.
Ideally, the RIAA wants a continuous stream of revenue and for the consumer to never have a permanent copy of anything. Subscription models is what they will really push in the coming years. People think I'm stupid with my little "black box" theory, but we'll see....

| Steve Jobs is a smart man.... go to hell idiots I can buy a $50 of blank CDs at the store for $7.99. Something tells me CDs are really cheap to produce.
The material we get costs $.10 and so we pay around $9.80-14.50 for the music plus taxes and all of a sudden $0.99 per song is too little?
All I can say is they can watch piracy rise as soon as they rise those prices and they can watch me help others get some songs for free without downloading.
What are they going to blame next on their loss of sales? My grandfathers death dog on the lawn?
Have they ever stop to think and maybe think that its their overprice crap music?
I seriously listen to very little new stuff.I listen mostly to music from around the 70's.

| So... If they pull the plug and sales go down they will just blame P2P. It is funny to me that with online sales the music industry does less work yet want more money. I am not a fan of the ipod but even I know they they drive online sales. They need to stop dragging their feet and learn to adapt to the changing market. | |

| Music Industry must be greedy... I say screw 'em... the music industry MUST know, that the reason people pay $500 for a measly widdle hard drive based player is the 'cache' of music that goes along with it, break that parnership up, and apple will have to go for profits somewhere else... ie cut the price of those ipods down to about 1/2, and move into video ipods (vipods) which means that the content will come from SOMEWHERE! And I guess the music industry doesn't want a piece of the action anymore.. Too bad, $1 a song is quite alot. | |

@gm.com | greddy This will show you how greedy they are.. For every $.99 song sold, the music industry gets.. Wait for it... $.70.. That's right, they get 70% and apple gets the rest and they're complaining about not getting any money..

| DIE, DRM, DIE!!! The inevitable bankruptcy of the RIAA will mean music will be nothing but indie labels. What indie in its right mind will make use of their product more difficult for their consumers? Perhaps the folks working at RIAA are getting pissed at their stockholders for being so demanding and are actually trying to destroy themselves on purpose. Makes a weird kind of sense... -- 'The tighter the RIAA squeezes their grip, the more stars and systems will slip through their fingers.' | |

| Tsch. Honestly, the RIAA doesn't care about the people anymore, and it should be eliminated itself. And the RIAA will not listen to the people. If they had listened to the people in the first place, this wouldn't be happening. It would probably be a good idea to boycot Metallica as well. | |
