Who cares if it boots 50% faster? How many people actually reboot that often? My uptime on my PC is some crazy amount with reboots being a once in a blue moon kind of thing, I think most people are the same.

It's perfect!

Their tag-line can read:

Windows Vista -
Because stability and efficiency is still on the Horizon.

WinVi?

Taken from bink.nu...
quote:
I've started some discussion with fellow site owners, and we've decided that Windows Vista's abbreviation should be WinVi.

Here's the reasoning:

* Vi is the first two letters of Vista
* Windows Vista is Windows NT 6.0. In Roman Numerals VI is the number six.

Sounds good to me...

VISTA's already been used. Open VistA is an open source
software for hospitals from the VA.
Maybe the gov't should sue Bill, and resolve the deficit.
Can't we have some originality?

Roman numerals

I think MS should start using roman numerals to indicate the year of their product. This one could be Windows MMVI

Microsoft wants to lease VISTA?

I been hearing talks where Microsoft wants to lease their next OS; is this true? How much will it cost to use Vista each month?

Vista will not fly - Hasta la vista - VISTA

Good bye VISTA
Microsoft has plans to lease VISTA on Monthly and Yearly Bases
IT departments will not be able to afford this type of operation.
Consumers will be discouraged by the leasing factor.

hasta la vista microsoft. Time to switch to linux

What do you think?

I think you need to keep your pants on until how Vista is packaged is finalized.

Also Means....

....Landscape, Vision, View.

So I guess they are trying to be humorous & saying we are "viewing through Windows"

I really don't like Longhorn or Vista, but oh well!

Vista is a fine name, although....

....Windows LK ("Linux Killer") would have been better

Windows Vista Boot up 50% faster

Ok people I seen someone say that they always say the system will boot up faster then it did before and none of them have. Now they said it would boot up faster. They were saying it would boot up faster then it would when the OS was originally was written. But now this time they said it would boot up 50% faster than XP. Yea it'll boot up faster if you have the system they tell you that you need. And I'm not talking about the minimum requirements. I am talking about the system they think everyone should already have. The 3 plus ghz system with 3 gigs of ram. When a new OS is written they just pile on more crap in startup that isn't needed. I would be willing to suffer application startup time some to get a faster bootup time. The way to fix that I believe would be not to load some things until a program calls upon it. I don't know how to make programs but I am willing to bet that more then half the stuff Windows initiates on startup doesn't need to be. The least used things shouldn't be initiated until called upon by a program. Just me 2 cents.

50% faster than XP...

So I suppose it'll still be 50% slower than 2000, and 90% slower than 98SE

Just so you know...

Sorry, I know I'm a bit late on this, but going back to what RedXII1234 and the topic at that time. You don't actually need to reboot for that stuff to happen. For anything requiring a system reboot, all you need to do is end the explorer.exe process in the task manager and start it again from the applications tab. After that, problem solved, and it takes like 5 seconds if you can think and type fast enough
