| Not good enough As an ex Comcast suscriber that switched to Verizon FIOS basic 5/2 service cannot say I am tempted to move back. FIOS is much more reliable (I am a Network Engineer, it WAS Comcast's fault not mine) and the FIOS speed is much more consistent. 2mpbs up rocks, it just makes the internet a better place. | |

| Pretty happy now ... I am pretty happy with the speeds i have now on the Gold tier .. if they jack me up to 8000/768 for the same price that would be cool.
I remember back a few years when only the OOL folks could come close to these speeds and i was very happy with my Direct-TV DSL ..my how times change.

1 edit | Comcast ok by me Until about a year ago, my options were dialup or satellite. I have been very happy with Comcast for what my needs are. No problems except for the little DNS thing awhile back but these boards were able to get me back online quickly. I like seeing the speed upgrades and price adjustments due to competition. I'm currently on a 19.99/mo. promo for 1 year thank's to Verizon. -- I once thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

| why not provide faster upload? I love sppeed, but honestly why can't we get more of it in the upstream direction? Cable networks can certainly provide it, as evidenced by my Adelphia premier speeds of a solid 6.8MBPS down and an amazing 900K upload, which I believe is the best on the west coast! At my average download of about 850 kilobytes per second, I can download a 350MB video in let's see 6.8 minutes, which is quite good. However to upload an equally sized piece of content with my average upload speed of 105-107 kilobytes per second, it would take around 55 minutes, which is some 6.8 times slower than what I can receive at! And for those with RR with 8mbps/512KBPS speeds, a 350MB file can be downloaded in just over 6 minutes, yet to upload an equally sized piece of content, would take you some 102 minutes, or 1 hour 42 minutes to complete! Let's see that's something like 17 times slower than your download potential! Some providers are willing to increase their download but keep uploads at these slow rates, why I ask? Even at 3MBPS download, we have enough bandwidth to watch a pretty high quality live video stream, yet the fastest video stream K know of was live 8 this past weekend and that was just 460KBPS, not exactly using the full potential of our downstream. More upload wouldn't just be good for sending files, but high quality voice and/or video conferencing with multiple people could be nice uses of upstream as well. Now don't get me wrong I love faster downstream, but rather than give us plenty of downstream bandwidth, and hardly any upload bandwidth, why not offer more upstream bandwidth as well, so we can truly take advantage of what could possibly be done with a decent truly high speed connection both down and upstream! Let's shadder the 1MBPS barrier for upstream connectivity already! Just think with 2MBPs upload speeds that 350MB file would take only 30 minutes to send, and just imagine the quality of chat or video sessions with that available bandwidth? It can be done, we have the downstream bandwidth, now give us the upstream bandwidth to go with our download! | |

| Faster speeds, more, more, more. For all of you *$#$%@?! who keep saying "no one needs anything faster than 'blah blah blah'", "and you will never hit those speeds on any websites".
Obviously you don't do anything other than email and a little surfing.
You also fit into the category of the geniuses that said: "64k of ram is more than we will ever need", "Why on earth would anyone want to have a computer at home", "The Internet will never catch on".
Personally I will continue to 'waste' my money and buy the absolute fastest technology I can get my grubby little hands on. So bring on the ever faster connection speed.
I just get tired of reading these post from people whom don't care about or understand reasons for faster speeds.

@comcast.net | No thanks, maybe later. Everyone in the Bay Area, Northern and Southern California, look forward to seeing even higher pings and slower downloads in the evenings. These crap ATT networks can barely handle the 4 meg upgrade.

| Speed, Comcast, Internet 2 If Comcast did go to a 10/1 speed, it would be interesting to see how much bandwidth such speeds take. I know in ham radio, when using RTTY, the faster you go, the more bandwidth you use. I can't imagine 20/2 although that would make it a lot easier to do video chatting. If Comcast does a large speed increase, then spends the time to identify, and fix the latency problems in their network, then the service would be competitive. Having 10/1 means nothing if you get the nightly 7PM-Midnight slowdown. The thing is, do we really need to go faster and faster? After all, content providers such as Yahoo and Google only have so much bandwidth to go around. Granted, they may have OC3 or faster connections but even those can be maxed out by many users. Also, Isn't Internet 2 supposed to be a faster internet between universities? That would mean upgrading the backbone as well no? | |
