Wireless

I understand there are some cheapo bridges out there that will work just fine with the present releases of SLINGBOX. Could someone be kind enough to post the places to buy these sub $30 units.

Re: Wireless

I don't believe you'll find anything reliable under $30, however I can offer you something right @ $50 that is VERY reliable

The Powerline Bridge XE102 by Netgear
»www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···bermerch

is very reliable and are about $50/each and you will need 2 of them, the alternative if you really want a wireless adapter is ....

The netgear WGE111 @ »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···bermerch @ almost $80.

Hope that offers some input, sorry that its not in your price range, but I won't recommend cheap stuff that won't work to you, matter of ethics

Non-XP support?

Wish it was there. My laptop (for travelling) is bound by coporate standard to have Win2K.

Re: Non-XP support?

Currently it is only WindowsXP, but from what I understand at the CES Expo they had showed off other OS's as well, but that is completely rumour.

Watch Live Video

A extremely simply solution for the people that want to view their own live video is...

Buy a cheapo camera and a modulator. Modulate you video signal over one of your unused TV channels and watch it with your slingbox.

Sharing with a friend?

I have a question:

I live in Taiwan, and TV here is TERRIBLE. Would it be possible for me to buy a Slingbox and install it in my friend's place in Canada, then watch his TV from my computer in Taiwan? The issues I am worried about are whether or not his TV will actually turn on if I attempt to watch it from here. Can I get the feed from his cable box without turning on his TV? I don't want to disturb him or waste his electricity. I think we'd have to make some agreements about when I can use it and when I can't, but could this work? I'd be so stoked to watch NHL hockey this winter!

Question!!

I am considering this! What if you have cable TV and you have cable internet (Roadrunner in my case) and just split off the line coming in for roadrunner and plug into the back of the slingbox. Would that work! I know it would just be basic tv but then you would not have to worry about what other people in the house was watching when you were in another location!

Re: Question!!

if you split the cable signal to the back of the sling box you will use its "built in channel analog decoder"

so the answer is yes.

Proprietary players suck

OK, I understand the need for control function to be built into the interface but since you are using WM9 Codecs, why can't we just log on and use WM Player?

If "Branding" is the issue, use asx and embed a small graphic in the player. This would be for those of us trying to do a simple stream that would be set up prior to leaving home...A sort of simple webcam functionality if you like.

We were hoping to be able to use Sling at work and stream to our customers but there is no way we can ask them to install anything on their PCs and Laptops.

Looks like I build a server with Windows Media Encoder again. I have done this in the past for several companies. Used Helix server for RealMedia too. Works fine on simple PCs with cheap capture cards. Oh well.

Thanks for listening.

Slingbox support HDTV signal?

I hope SLingbox supports HDTV signal - getting a $300 box
and it become a paper weight in 2 years is not my idea.
