But will they get it

Are they going to work with customers who suffer bad signals and cannot get full speeds?

Thing here is that if there's any signal problems then the modem will constantly be trying to readjust to the fullest speed. And if they're trying to do fast downloads they will see more packet loss which results in more retransmits..

I'm so glad my FIOS does not suffer from this.

Talk about jumping to conclusions.

Well..

They won't be around for much longer, I guess they want to go out with a bang

It's still a bit more than FIOS ($59.99), but not everyone has FIOS available in their neighborhoods.

funny

Before Adelphia was bought and split, I never saw ads for them. Now that the end is near, they seem to be blowing the rest of the cash they have on advertising. Comcast won't let the 16/2 last. They'll pull the plug the day they take over.

VZ, yes, but Cox?

What does Cox have anything to do with Adelphia upping speeds when the two don't compete? That's like saying BellSouth cut prices because SBC did...

Re: But will they get it

The answer is right in the ad.

"Extreme is Adelphia's newest level of High-Speed Internet service, with jaw-dropping fast
download speeds of up to 16 Mbps, and upload speeds of up to 2 Mbps (1)."

That little (1) at the end of the sentence points to the "fine print" at the bottom of the screen.

"(1) Adelphia does not guarantee speeds, as the speed of the Adelphia Broadband Service provided to you at
your site will vary depending upon your computer and associated equipment, internet traffic and associated
equipment, and other factors."

I think it would be nice to have those speeds unlocked and the possibility of reaching them. BUT, it will just lead to complaints of "I'm paying for 16/2 and all I get on the speedtest is 12/1.5" When they should be happy to be getting the 12/1.5 in the first place.

Re: Dam

These speeds that we see here could just be the beginning of a HSI revolution. I hope. Price remains a consideration.

I'll take the 2mb upload.

I'm not too "WOWed" about thr 16mb down. I rather have 2mb up though! Give me 2/2 and I'll be a happy man!

Re: VZ, yes, but Cox?

I hear that a lot: "they don't compete". But it's an incorrect premise. If you're in a state with another cable provider offering 15Mbps, customers look to you and say "Why don't you offer 15Mbps?" It's not direct competition, but it's public relations competition.

They're very aware of it. Why do think Verizon offered that recent "deal"? To maintain competitive public image.

Re: I'll take the 2mb upload.

I don't see a TOS on their Extreme page, but are they going to allow servers to be run on this connection?

If not, 2Mbps upload doesn't serve too many purposes, from a computing aspect.

Just in case anyones interested....

This is how it's done...

»broadband.motorola.com/ips/pdf/S···idth.pdf

Adelphia has already widely deployed the BSR64000 CMTS chassis in many areas. With little more than a code upgrade, Adelphia could begin marketing the expanded bandwidth Channel Bonding offers.

Who'd-a-thunkit? Adelphia doin this....man, that's irony for ya....

A little more.

FIOS should bury the competition. There is no way cable can provide 20mbps/5mbps on the current technology and still make it profitable. I believe it would be good if they could upgrade to this and still maintain the "god" like image they had before all these other companies joined in.

No Servers. And upload really isn't directed just for servers. Now I can easily upload tons of photos, videos, etc that I own to my webspace or to other people.

Yeap. They have to have something to bring in the customers and keep the ones they loose while all the speculation goes around.

Once these other companies zap them up, the speeds will be gone.. and then we get to hear more complainers on here...
