.

I don't like this. Google is getting too big.

Soon it will be jack of all trades and master of none?

Greed will ruin them.

Paypal is OK

But it would be interesting to see what, if anything Google brings to the table.

(Now if Google was to give me a beta account with no limit and they paid the bill I would be glad to help.;))

Cant wait

I would switch in a second.. I quickly got tired of Paypals high transaction fees and simply put, I trust the good name/brand more.

Eh?
Yes, good!

Well, after being one of thousand paypal users who were hi-jacked, I would use google. I trust the name more than eBay.

Re: .

you mean a master of all also?

Google maps > mapquest > yahoo maps
Google search > all (most other sites use google search now anyways)
Google image search > all (see above)
Google News > all (customizability, no ads, very simple)
Gmail > all (outstanding spam control, great interface, fairly inobtrusive advertising)

If they do it better and cheaper than everyone else then let them do as they like.

I agree. I hate Paypal with a passion and will have nothing to do with them.

And lets not forget their "approved transaction types." Rules that I might understand if they were in line with the types of things that were sold on eBay or were in line with what's legal to buy/sell in country of the transactions.

On a guess, Google will try to buy initial market share.

Re: .

I think there's a few ways of looking at this:

1. Is doing "what pleases investors" - which infers "doing what increases the stock price" - in direct conflict with "doing the right thing"? Immediately, I think the answer is "no", but at some point if you start reaching for only "all things profitable" your intent for "all things good/right" goes down.

2. On the flip side, it's probably a healthy thing for there to be (serious) competition with PayPal. Some people have complained about rates, etc... and competition is one way to alleviate these things....

3. ...and on side number 3 (here's one for you EBay'ers who look forward to using Google Wallet) - IF 23% of EBay's profits were from PayPal (let's remember who owns what), THEN why in the heck would EBay allow Google Wallet to be used? Or is this something that EBay can not control? What could EBay to to limit it's use? If I were a major stock holder of EBay, I would certainly be asking "What can we do so that Google Wallet does not infringe on our profits."

Google Auctions

Just wait and see. Google Auctions coming soon. It only makes sense.

IMHO

@shawcable.net

Google is NOT evil

I personally would LOVE to see Google give Paypal some competition. I also LOVE the idea of some competition for Ebay. Both are starting to get out of hand with the transation fee's.

I have nothing against Google getting Ginormous and trying to do everything. So far, they have shown that they are not Evil like Micro$oft and it's even writting right into their company mission statement that they "shall not be evil".

Ebay has no control over how you pay the buyer. There is however paypal links, icons etc embedded within the Ebay ad's so that merchants who want to accept Paypal can advertise it before anyone clicks the listings link on the search page also you can preenter the amounts onto it and all the buyer needs to do is enter his user/pass and then click send money, faster than going to www.paypal.com and having to fill out the send money form.

Of course people will move to Google Wallet but I think this is BAD. Right now almost all of the internet money transfer market is Paypal. With Google coming into play it's going to screw up a lot of this since people will not have a common system of exchanging money. Unless there was a way of having the two systems work together I don't see how this will work well. Basically what will happen is merchants / buyers will need to hold a Paypal and a Google Wallet account since there is no telling which you will need for a transaction. I just hope Paypal wins out in the end because it was THEY who made this system work and I love Paypal!

Google is becoming a gigantic behemoth of a company. Before it went public it was just a search engine with a slither of other features. Now today it has all these other features and they are basically trying to take over and create a monopoly on internet services. This is NOT good for the consumer. I loved Google and still do the way it is but I fear it is going to get so big that it will become nothing more than another AOL or Microsoft.

I use Google Search CONSTANTLY and Gmail is my main e-mail account now. Google rocks, but I wonder how much longer this will last.

Hey also isn't it weird that you have the same avatar as me?
