Small towns!

"These towns are pretty darn small right? From what I gather, not too many homes."

What we have is actually a long corridor along what is known as the Wasatch Front. About 90 miles long and varies from 4-10 miles in width. The main population of Utah is along this corridor as are the cities that have pledged support for Utopia.

Years ago you could distinguish where one city ended and another started. Not anymore. It's one long corridor of housing and business. Utah has a bit over 2 million people with well over half living along the Wasatch Front corridor.

compete or die!

You know what sucks, the city I live in was on the list of Phase 1 city's to be completed. They have put the conduit for the fiber in my street already (did it two years ago). But then a meeting with citizens of the city put a screeching halt to the project, now I think we are in phase 3 which is still years away.

I will be pissed if utopia has to stop altogether. It seems like most of the broadband internet in Salt Lake are shared T1's, I mean let's get real, those speeds are old news anymore. Qwest and comcast are here, but when will Qwest ever offer enough speed to scare Comcast? After seeing all of the speed increases being issued by other cable/dsl companies out there, I think the lousy 5mb/384kb raise from comcast was a slap in the face. Without competition here, I think I will be faced with these speeds for the next 3 or 4 years while the rest of the country enjoys speeds that make mine look like dial-up. If utopia is allowed to finish, it will at least create a market where speed matters and hopefully some of these other companies that drag their damn feet waiting for somebody to push them along will get a kick in the ass and be forced to compete or die!!!
