sad but true

As always, the technology is here, but not the necessary capital to deploy it.

@on.ca
do you think VDSL2 customers will actually see the 100Mbps connections? i dont think so.. but if they did then that would be great, finally we can compete and exchange information with the far east at the same speeds.

It will be some time before we see VDSL2!

Well i think SBC and other tele company's will take a liking to the new technology! Well i have a feeling we wont see this until 2 or 3 more years!

Don't Believe the Hype: Good Technology Gone Bad

DSL Takes Its Hits

Like WAP, DSL has picked up a few nom de plumes of its own. Disappointing Subscriber Line and Digital Slow Line have shown up in letters to the editor of several industry magazines. But then, DSL—it actually stands for digital subscriber line and provides a high-speed connection to the Internet and corporate intranets—has been a big disappointment to millions who can't get DSL service, as well as to the millions who are getting it. »www.phptr.com/articles/article.a···m=8&rl=1

How about DSL above 18k ft?

Yes, DSL above 18k ft thats not 144k. They need to focus on that.

Re: sad but true

This gives me even more anxiety over SBC's/BellSouth's low (relative) bandwidth nextgen ADSL2 deployment plans. ADSL might be the cheapest path to take, but will likely have a very short to non-existent competitive lifespan. Unlike FIOS, or even cable (apparently) which are scalable, giving them a longer return on investment.

I guess it won't really matter in the many areas where these incumbents have no real competition, but they are going to get slaughtered like a third stringer wherever they have forward thinking competition (FIOS, Cable, municipal fiber, etc).

Well

Looks like I will be right on the edge for service if 12,000ft is the loop limit. I'm at 11,500.

Going to be interesting to see how this evolves!

@comcast.net

Another load of shit!

@2000 feet,you would think that Verizon could hook me up with the old technology........BUT NO! Infineon better kiss it's sweet ass goodbye because no ones really investing in chicken shit DSL doo-dads! Unless the telco's invest in deployment,and they failed miserably, This technology wont help them one teeny weenie bit!

Heh,What's next? Virtual equipment?

Tech companies

Like Zyxel and others, are you reading this? The chips are available soon. Please make the equipment so companies like Covad and others can build out CO's and offer some real broadband.

Re: Well

dslwanter - keep a close eye on your house as this deployment nears... watch for it to creep 500 ft away from the CO. Most people don't see it, so watch closely..

Re: How about DSL above 18k ft?

The idea is the telcos need to start deploying remote DSLAMSs. That's the only way this idea's gonna fly.

No thanks, BigMike. I'd rather not read a tech article that's well over two years old.

Re: lag = :(

unless you are on interleave, DSL will murder cable lagwise 9 times out of 10.

Yes I said it. Bring it on.
