That Genuine Advantage program is retarded.
All you have to do is click "No do not verify my copy of XP" and Microsoft STILL allows you to download whatever piece of software your looking for. At least you can get around this advantage program when using Firefox. Not sure when it comes to IE.

This iswhatp sises me off, I have a legit copy of XP, yet I have to crack Xactivation if I want to put it on another PC. I know peopel who pirate XP, but they only do it if its needed immediately, everyoen I know ones their own copy of XP, yet has shared it on another PC(The pirates do). Me and the priates are gonan build a ship and sail the seven seas, and bombard microsoft and steals their gold! ARR! |

mine is pirated, but i do have a legit corporate license key i nabbed of a machine at work. if i do need to go legit its a damn shame work left the Certificate of Authenticity on the laptop LOL damn and its for XP Pro too. that sucks for them. there are many ways to beat microshaft out of the "requirement" of legit windows. belarc advisor shows you any key for any program after its installed. need i say more? |

You wish. To get a free copy you have to prove purchase and place of purchase and provide the CD. And it applies to Pro only, not HE as far as I know.
If you don't do the above then you can BUY for $149 a key if you fill-in a counterfeit report.

Maybe, if your are a total weirdo and require your friends to provide recipts, he printed a recipt that he made in word or something. Would MS accept that? Cause if they do I have about 30 recipts right ... uh around here somewhere, I'll have em for ya in 45mins. |

The program works NOT to give you free soft because they feel too rich. The point is TO CATCH pirates. That works like that, when you send them your "not original CD," you also send a receipt and a written statement that you bought that "what you thought" was original from such and such vendor. Basically, you make a legal statement that someone duped you by selling a CD that looked like original but also has a "hacked" key code.
So, this method allows people who BOUGHT (not downloaded from newsgroups or mIRC) an OS that they thought was authentic to get their hands on the real McCoy in exchange for the testimony against the pirate. Thus, MS collects info on the places that SELL M$ hacked products as original ones.
It is NOT for people who knowingly got their copy off P2P.
