| we don't need no stinking landline i've written many times that we booted our verizon landline over 2 yrs ago; we use gsm national shared plan for all voice communications & comcast for the isp thing. i'd consider naked dsl not because i'm inherently displeased with comcast-------------actually, recent outages notwithstanding, the service is pretty snappy & reliable. however, we plainly need level field competition to have any semblance of interest on the consumer's behalf. if verizon can provide me w/ a product that equals in speed & matches or exceeds comcast's service, i'd consider it. until then, they get exactly zero of my consumer, discretionary dollars. bub | |

| Thank goodness I just got SunRocket's VoIP and have been hoping Verizon will bring naked DSL to the west sometime soon. While not here, this is at least an encouraging sign. If Verizon goes with naked DSL in the west, then I can justify keeping their service. If not, then I'll seriously consider dropping them and going with cable (Comcast). It's not a change I really want to make, but a cable modem plus VoIP is cheaper than VoIP plus local phone service plus DSL. | |

| Naked DSL on SBC is possible? If they can do "Dry Pairs" then they can do "Naked DSL".
I work at a country club and we have major golf tournaments.
During these golf tournaments, SBC supplies many, many dry pairs as they call them.
These lines are true no voltage lines that the user supplies voltage on for their needs.
Users such as ABC, NBC, ESPN etc..
They use them and we even have them setup in whats called a "Rain Room" in case of rain! They are unused dry lines that terminate at usually a broadcast trailer which often goes all the way to the CO and back.
I don't know facts about the claim that dry pairs will oxidize if not powered but I do know that some of the 800+ pairs that are brought in for a major tournament are still showing power years later.
The last tournament we did last year was mostly served by fiber as they did that run a few years ealier.
We still can't use the fiber for HSI but our phone service is via the fiber in the manhole so I'm told.
Naked DSL is a reality in my area of SBC as I have seen it done but getting SBC to offer it ???
We had no less than 200 aDSL lines during the last tournament and if it all came in on the same copper cable bundle then I doubt it would have worked at all.
It was mostly fibre and dry pairs from what I saw.
Heck, I run a dsl circuit across my property on a dry pair.

| No naked DSL I called Verizon today (4/19/05) to get naked on my DSL and they said that they had heard no word from the top saying that they can do this. I knew something was up with this post when there wasn't a link to a news article on Verizon's website. This news is total FUD as far as I can tell. Until an official press release article shows up on Verizon.net's website this is still a money conscious geeks pipe dream. | |

| on the phone with boston ma local office called the local office at (800) 870-9999. initially the rep said it was impossible, i was like not really. then he admitted he just didn't know anything about it. finally he checked with a supervisor who said it just became available today.
he said he was going to figure out "how to do it" so i waited on hold for a while. he returned and said it was ny only.

| Bull Crap She is probably saying that after, many have called asking "Is this in reponce to gripe #2 on broadbandreports.com?", she figures its the easy answer.
I called AT&T, and when they checked my line, they said I could not move cause of the DSL line, and when I told her about Verizon's naked plan, she was like, that MAY be the case, but we can not switch you, with the DSL line active.

| no naked here Nope... no luck here. I've been trying every 2 days to cancel my landline and/or port it to a wireless account (Verizon Wireless or other carrier). They still say they can't... even though most of the reps have seen news reports and even have internal memos (they've read them to me) that say it's possible.
The closest I got was one rep who was willing to do it but when she contacted the DSL group to verify pricing they stopped her cold.

I'm also located in Buffalo..after the news story broke a few months ago regarding Verizon offering naked DSL, I of course followed the herd and called Verizon and asked for the naked DSL service to which they said "No it isn't available..it was a mistake".
I want to try your plan of action. I want to switch my local service to a Verizon wireless account. I heard it was fairly high-rated. Do you think there will be any problems switching both services to Verizon? Which wireless service did you go with and eventually drop?

| Re: Buffalo Telecom Nudity When I switched to naked I ported my Verizon landline to a Verizon wireless account. The port went fine. (although my DSL was knocked out for 2-3 days and I had to work with them to get it restored)
Verizon Wireless reception in my apartment was HORRIBLE. Like it would drop 5+ calls a night. Sometimes it would drop calls before the person would pick up! It was awful! A Verizon rep at the store in Cheektowaga told me he had the exact same problems in my neighborhood (Children's Hospital area) which is where he lives too. It's just one of those weird 'holes'.
So - because I needed it to work in my apartment, I cancelled the Verizon Wireless. Since my number porting was already done and my naked DSL was already up and running, me cancelling had no effect.
So now I'm continuing to use my T-mobile cellular which I had used for a year previously.
Another hint: don't buy your wireless plan/phone online - it makes it a lot harder to cancel and return the phone if you need to. | |

| Naked SBC? My promo rate was over this past month and now I am being forced to pay $42 for phone line and dsl (promo was $32). I told them I don’t need phone service but they ignore my gripes. In total i pay $100 for cell and dsl, im being sucked dry. SBC needs to stop forcing customers to pay for phone service when nobody uses the damn thing. I all want is to pay $32 for dsl and it doesn’t have to be the fastest dsl. The only two players are Time Warner and SBC so i think im stuck. | |
