These are complaints that you can find posted on any story on this website. I don't think we need them reposted as news. |

| It costs more that this!
"$45-$50 a month for a stand-alone cable-broadband connection or VoIP service is ridiculous."
HEH! that is what it costs for internet with their stupid TV discount!
For comcast it is just under $60 for internet alone and that is for the basic tier.
You are right about the ridiculous part though.
The only decent bundling I have seen was from WOW, but they are such a small company that they won't change the way things are done on anything other than a neighborhood level. And that is if they are known about. |

If I recall, Time Warner charged something close to that until Earthlink started undercutting them and actually offering a cheaper stand-alone connection! In that case only the fact that they were forced - as part of the AOL merger - to share their lines brought the prices down. And it's still $45. |

said by SpitefulCrow :These are complaints that you can find posted on any story on this website. I don't think we need them reposted as news. Your right. This isnt news. It is an on-going feature commentary or article. I suspect the purpose of which is to inform the *average* visitor to BBR (not the telco professional or everyday broadband news junkie). As an IT person who doesnt spend much time monitoring the telco industry I have appreciated the author's discussion of some of the major hurdles facing *average* broadband consumers. Please dont drop in on a thread just to drop negative comments. Please keep in mind that it is much harder to actually produce something than it is to critique it. |

Naked connections are important, and I would pair this along with speed increases, better technical support, and consumer education. |

Did you actually read the article? It's talking about cable as well. |

Isn't charging a premium for those who wish cable Internet service without CATV the same thing? Kinda works out to the same fee (basic telephone VS. non-CATV HSI) Read down the posts here.
I mean it's still fees being charged for not bundling services. |

That's exactly what the article talks about, and criticizes the cable industry for it! Yet you slam them (obviously without reading it) for "bell bashing"? |

Unless #1 is "no more transfer limits unless properly documented and with details visibile while purchasing the package", this list means NOTHING to me.

| Provider/Location Specific Pricing
$45-$50 a month for a stand-alone cable-broadband connection or VoIP service is ridiculous.
In my location, residential stand-alone cable-broadband runs $39.99 to $54.99 per month from one provider and $57.95 to $67.95 per month from the other (pricing for both providers is without modem rental). There are both provider-specific and location-specific influences on the stand-alone rates for cable broadband.
Short of Federal Regulation of Broadband, I'm not really certain of the mechanism to enable "Naked DSL" in all areas or eliminate higher pricing of stand-alone cable broadband and stand-alone DSL. With any luck, the Supreme Court's pending ruling on Brand-X may offer some insight into the Court's opinion of current law and regulation with respect to broadband. |
