I called SBC as soon as I read this and immediately got my upgrade. The rep I spoke with said my line would be upgraded a week from Monday. Easiest upgrade ever. |

No kidding - amazing that come people are still paying $49.95 for the SAME service. Spread the word on this one quickly! |

Few dollars more than when I was paying 26.95 for 1.5/384! Now I'm on the 3/512 plan very sweet deal |

An amazing deal from a company that soaks you ~$8/mo for CallerID with name or ~$5/mo for Call Forwarding.
Anyway, if DSL can't deliver higher speeds like Comcast's 6000/768 then I guess SBC is forced to lower its prices on their distance-impaired DSL technology. ROFLMAO! |

There's been posts about this in the SBC Ameritech forum for the past 2 or 3 weeks, we had some members get the deal that first week. I'm surprised that thread wasn't linked here too. -- Power corrupts. Absolute power is kinda neat. |

I finally got re-rated! This was my sixth call to SBC and I got my pro package (1.5 - 3.0) for $29.99/month for 12 months, down from the $36.99 I been paying until now. The rep kept saying the "All Distance" plan was required for existing customers to get the reduced rate (the same tired explaination on my previous calls). I said forget it, I don't want that plan and she said she would waive the "All Distance" for me. The trick, I guess, is to ask for the DSL retention department (as mentioned in a previous post), which I did this time but not previously. |

| reply to Akujin said by Akujin :I called SBC as soon as I read this and immediately got my upgrade. The rep I spoke with said my line would be upgraded a week from Monday. Easiest upgrade ever. I called in on the first day this promotion was out and asked to be re-rated, as I had just entered a renewed contract for $26.95 a few days previously. I was called back the same day, informed I would be re-rated to $19.95. It's about time service and low prices are starting to come together. But that wasn't all..
The irony came just after, where being 8500ft away from the nearest box, I was told I could now upgrade to the next tier of speed (3mbps/512kbps?) . I asked why and they said my line quality was good enough for it. Our line quality has been the same for the 5 years I've had DSL, but that didn't stop them from rejecting us several times over the years.
Additionally, in 2002 I was told I couldn't renew a contract because I was too far away to have any DSL, by more than one rep at that. For a while, I'd say roughly 6 months, they made a dead stop in servicing new customers in my neighborhood, meaning I couldn't even sign a new contract and had either paid the higher price or had no broadband. They said they wouldn't nix my DSL as an existing customer, which didn't help my neighbors who were trying to get DSL.
While this news of re-rating to $19.95 is pleasing, SBC/Pacbell, given what's happened over the years, remains an oddity to me with the logic they provide behind their DSL services. |

Since Comcast doesn't require any contract and SBC always requires one to get a none ridiculous price, doesn't look quite as good. |

| Wow.
Verizon and SBC are getting aggresive with their price specials to compete with cable companies! That is about how much I pay for my dial-up account! I wished I could get DSL/Fios from Verizon. |

I've been on a contract since May 2000. BFD. They've always let you re-rate to a lower price if a special deal like this comes up. When was the last time your cable bill was cut in half for the same service?
I'm paying a whopping $5 more a month now for 6016/608 ($45) than I was paying for 768/128 ($40) back 2000. Beat that with or without a contract. |

I did this about 25 days ago, and it took them me calling back 2 days after the scheduled date to get the order through since they had no record of it in their system. But once I called he pushed a few buttons, which I heard, and then the infamous beep noise the modem makes when it retrains, and viola 3008 down 512 up. All with a few keystrokes, now why cant they forward people to this guy all the time?

Anyone know if this rerating can be retrograde for the existing contract, or does it require another one year contract? I'm probably moving by July-September, so it wouldn't make sense to save 60 dollars in the mean time and pay through the nose to cancel.
