| unlimited xfer > limited xfer > invisible caps Something OOL and Comcast don't seem to get.
My 3000/768 is mine for the raping, for as long as I want to. 201 gigs uploaded in a month? No problem.
When Verizon was overloaded, it took two weeks for them to fix the routers. When Comcast and OOL nodes were overloaded, they sent out letters about abuse and caps.

| DSL--Kind of a No Brainer Here DSL wrecks cable all the way. Where I live
DSL- Verizon DSL anywhere from 768/128, 1500/384, or 3000/768 depending on where you live. I get 1500/384 and couldnt be happier! Super Fast Internet! Go Verizon! Only 29.95/month! (cant wait till fios comes out next month)
Cable- Optimum Online for 49.95/month at 10000/1000. 50 bucks for internet is crazy! Your probably saying "yeah but its so much fater." Well once your capped then the service is shit. Thats why DSL has the advantage.
Yeah DSL is way better, hands down. -- Verizon DSL: $29.95/month Optimum Online: $44.95/month Its kind of a no brainer here.

Can you show me a link that shows the price breakdown on the three DL/UL Speed classes you reported above?
I went to the Verizon site and the basic of basic rates was $29 ++(++ = taxes & fees)
If I wanted to add a dial up if I was on the road then it jumps to $59.99++ Yet I'm it's still at 1500/384 for the max.
What you report & what Verizon has on the web site are two different worlds in pricing.

| Re: DSL--Kind of a No Brainer Here It's a good price for what you get. It's a hell of a lot cheaper then my Bell here in FL which was hitting us for $54.95/Mo for the same speed as what you'd get with the $29++.
If you were to jump up your DL speed to equate my Cable DL speed using Verizon you'd break your bank $$$$$. It would be better for you to jump to Optimum Online: $44.95/month at that time.
It's also very dependent on where you are located as each case is just that. One option that works best for "That" person, at that location, at the cost they can afford.
The only folks that can say one is better then the other are the ones that tried both. I have. For here and now(Merritt Is., FL), DSL sucks in relationship to cable.

@comcast.net | dual wan hmm so much fighting over cable and dsl, well combine them and get a dual wan router which allows you to use both at the same time, great for hosting websites, especially if you are worried about down time

| It146;s About Marketing It not how is the best but who is the fastest company that can get the product into the customers hands. I am finding out the hard way with Verizon DSL. With Comcast, I could walk in tomorrow, pick up a self-install kit, and be online in days. With DSL I order wait a month to get the DSL modem and hope that I can get service. It is no wonder why Cable has a lead. Especially in our, I want it now, instant gratification world. | |

| Teclo's hold back DSL The main problem with DSL is the telco's deployment. In my town TWC had the entire community up and running 5 years ago, sprint introduced dsl just last year.
DSL is only avaiable to thoese near the only active CO, and sprint is not looking to expand the coverage anytime soon. Fastest speeds you can get currently are 512k/128k.
TWC offers 5mb down IIRC, and thats avaiable to anyone with cable to their home in the area. More people live outside of town then do near the CO location in the old bussiness district. TWC is winning the war with the last mile, at least where I live.

2 edits | I love DSL ... But ... I love my DSL, BUT ... I live in a really old house, with a rat's nest of a box outside ... and it seems like every two years on the nose the splitter outside goes down and I have to have it replaced.
What I'm seeing right now in PingPlotter is every 45 minutes or so a burst of red on the monitor ... meaning I'm disconnected ... for about 1 - 2 minutes.
That might not seem like much but it disconnects me if I'm online gaming AND if I'm connect via VPN w/ Remote Desktop to work I have to disconnect and reconnect. A big hassle.
I'm pretty sure it's the splitter again, but even with a good splitter I can't get > 2.0 to sync properly. Despite SBC telling me I'm close enough to get 3. Possibly due to the rat's nest. And my friends on Cable are all getting 3 with no disconnects.
AND if I want to get them to come out to replace the splitter I have to endure Tier 1 support that tells me to turn off my modem, etc. etc. I keep telling them, "Look, I work on PCs as a programmer. I know what I'm doing. I've tried everything you'll tell me to do and more. Just get me to Tier 2 and get someone out here." I usually end up getting exasperated and spending an hour or two on the phone.
Sigh.
I'm tired of it, and I've pretty much decided to switch (OK, I have. I ordered a Motorola SB5100 already.), despite the fact that, without cable TV I'll be paying through the nose.

| For those b*tching about price of cable If you went out and bought a BMW M3 today, would you complain about price? I know I wouldn't, because I know I'm getting what I pay for. If you want the best available broadband service, you're going to pay the price for it. Because it's worth it. If you don't like that, you can always buy a Hyundai (DSL). Just my 2 cents. | |

| VDSL Anyone Seen It anywhere? Quote from Howstuffworks for those who don't know what VDSL is: "There are already some companies, such as U.S. West (part of Qwest now), that offer VDSL service in selected areas. VDSL provides an incredible amount of bandwidth, with speeds up to about 52 megabits per second (Mbps). "
It requires Fiber but I havn't seen anyone offering it for business or for residential. This is the clear move for DSL companies to over take Comcast and the like.
