What about Maxthon

Noones mentioned Maxthon as a browser choice.
It is what I am using on my ancient system.
I have tried FireFox but it was real slugish in loading pages and crashed quite a bit. Even after trying the 1.0 version that came out several months ago.
Maxthin does use the IE engine so the internet options are connected. Tabbed browser,Adblocking,Content blocking. Which does seem easier to set up per site than FirFox.
You can get plugins installed. Block Active X from getting to your system.
I only use Internet Explorer when I have to. Also still have an older version of Netscape installed.

IE Pre-loads

IE loads faster because MS has coded it to preload into memory at boot time.

Firefox is nice, but the tabbed browsing uses more RAM than running several instances of IE. WAY more memory. If a Firefox tabbed session fails, the whole engine shuts down.

I have also noticed that Firefox can't find the internet if someone else in XP has IE up and you have used the "fast user switch" option to log in. Switch back to that original IE user, shut down IE, switch back and voila, Firefox works!

just my view.

Re: IE Pre-loads

IE is more prone to spyware though, that fact right there kinda rules it out as a good browser
