| Soon... As soon as it arrives in sarasota, fl. (being installed now, expected by the end of the year max) I will be switching to verizon's TV, PHONE, INTERNET services. It is SPEED. Right now I use DISH Network for HDTV services becuase comcast overcharges for hdtv services. Verizon will own in speed becuase of the possbilities with high speeds in fiber.
Count me in! | |

| Re: Soon... Don't forget people. Fiber internet has alot more potential than cable internet service will ever have.
In places like South Korea and Japan, they offer up to 100 megabit Fiber service. Don't think Verizon will offer that much speed now, but, Fiber does offer that potential that cable will never be able to match unless they go full fiber.

| Tech question I don't want to get rid of my Cable CNT ... How the hell are u going to hookup your security alarm to an optical networking terminal... I have a security system in my current house and i just don't know what would happen if they totally tore away the copper *pot* ... Plus to be quite blunt I wouldn't want a damn verizon technie to touch my security system. I keep hearing the debate that some get their CNT's ripped out and replaced by the ONT verizon provides... I don't want to loose that and im sure many people won't wanna either. | |

If a thief really wants to break into your home, he will cut the phone lines and maybe even the cable line (cause he won't know the difference in between the 2.) And, whatever call back your system has will be rendered useless unless you have cell backup.

I just wouldn't want a houses investment to go sour by some ill trained verizonee... I hope you get my point.

| Come On now Not The Speed? LOL. Comcast will be beaten, and Verizon FiOS is the service to do it! With FiOS I can do quadrouple what I can now do with OOL, and in more time.
Yea, looks like Comcast victims will continue to be victimized and raped with prices. As it is mnay people with Comcast don't know about speeds, or whatever. All they know is they have high speed internet.
I know friends in Norristown and VA , and they have no clue about this stuff.

| Why am I the only one who remembers this? I am surprised that no one caught this.
Didn't Comcast say that they were "faster" than DSL and therefore didn't need to drop prices?
Seems now they don't think speed is an issue when they are the ones being left behind.
A quote from this thread: »Broadband Reports: Hot Topic
quote: Lots of talk out of Comcast CEO Brian Roberts about thrashing the telcos soundly via speed upgrades has consistently had our forums hopping. Not only has Roberts discussed upping the download speeds for Comcast customers to 3Mbps, he's been tossing around the phrase 100 Megabits, calling it "a real viable prospect in the not-many-many-year future."
How about this article: »Verizon Gets Industry's Attention
quote: SBC joined the party when analysts reported the company would soon be offering a cut-rate $25 a month "semi-fast" 384Kbps (SBC already offered 1.5Mbps speeds). This in turn sent analysts a flutter predicting serious problems for AOL, whose dial-up services were in the same price range...and the ball kept rolling.
Cable executives went into damage control mode, and it wasn't long before Comcast CEO Brian Roberts was in the public eye deriding DSL as an inferior product (see his comments about DSL being "less robust") and not necessarily even legitimate competition. Cablevision and Cox, also posting decent numbers, joined in with their own efforts to make Verizon's moves seem unimportant.

| Comcast not in the game... I live in Fort Wayne and had Comcast Internet - 4/356 I call Comcast to see how they were going to compete with Verizon's FIOS. They aren't even in the ball park more less the game. I have been with Comcast Internet since the beginning and was grandfathers in at a price of $44.95 / month. After asking if they could match Verizon's $34.95 / Month and 5/2 they told me that I was comparing apples to apples. Long story short. Comcast changed my rate.. they said they could not offer me the $44.95 rate any more. They also took my "INCLUDED" Basic TV service away (turned it off) and then raised my rate to $57.95 a month... I was HOT ... No negotiating with them.. They pushed me into FIOS.. I orderd it today and will be installed early nest week... Long live FIOS and the competive advantage.. COMCAST GET IN THE GAME.. I was pitching but you struck out and now it's a shut out.... Long gone never coming back... I can't wait for the FIOS TV service at $39.95 a month ... | |
