| Hmmm... a few thoughts for the cheaters... 1. You play a game with other people in a public forum, you play by the rules. You want to cheat, download a game and cheat away, playing single player mode, or with your cheater friends. In the old west, you cheated at solitaire in your room at the boardin' house, nobody cared. You cheated at poker in the saloon, the Sheriff didn't come to arrest you for fraud; ... the Sheriff came to lock up the guys you were playing for homicide.
2. The Army's letting you play their game. They're giving you the use of their public servers and other resources. And the other players are giving you their competition and comradery. If you enjoy playing, it's a fair guess somebody else does, too. Return the favor. However inconsiderate, rude, self-absorbed and distasteful you are in real life, you should either make an effort to behave like a mature, civilized person, with the most minimal consideration for the other players who make your fun time possible, or just not play the game, at all.
3. That said, if you happen to live in a shack on a mountain in Montana, and think the "gubament's out ta git me, they's usin' brain control, y'kno...", this probably isn't the game for you. Think it out in advance. If you think it's accessing your fertilizer inventory database and your KKK chapter's membership list, here's a clue... don't bother playing. Hmmm... uncanny grasp of the obvious. Since most of the rest of the country's not at all that dim, somebody'll figure out if the thing's taking over their computers. Since it's assumed you don't have "any a dem gubment spy thingies on MAH cumputa," you probably haven't even played it, much less decompiled and reverse engineered it.
4. No, releasing software to he public does NOT constitute "making it public domain." That applies to any software out there. If you want to "liberate" some app, pick one over at SourceForge. There, they might even let you have your own page, if it works when you get done with it. Better yet, start from scratch and write something. Make it as cheater friendly as you like. In the process, you might gain a real appreciation for the time, effort and real work that goes into bringing good software to people.
Cheaters make other people miserable. Only an infantile ethical slob laughs at seeing someone else's good time ruined. Or a bona fide closet sadist. People who enjoy ruining a game for other people -- which is precisely what lame arsed cheaters do -- are the same people who enjoy kicking dogs, scaring little children and pulling the wings off of flies. Real nice bunch.
... and cheaters aren't "mad skild hax" -- they're lame script kiddie dweebs... anybody still use that word? When I was a kid, it was sort of the diminutive of "geek." Geek could be a compliment, depended on the usage. A dweeb was a geeky dork with a bad attitude who richly deserved a sound asskicking. The same sort of 'lusers' who learn just enough VB to write a worm, and not enough to write a "hello world" routine.
Now, all that said... what to do with the cheaters? Hmmm... I have an idea. Let's make 'em all LRPs, and drop 'em near a cave, fifty miles behind the lines in Afghanistan, with a rusty Swiss Army knife and a canteen... mission: find Waldo Bin Laden... ...and don't worry one bit if they haven't had any training with their 'chutes. It's amazing how fast a guy can learn on the way down.
All that to get to a simple conclusion. "If you play a game with other people, you should treat them the way you want to be treated. If you can't or won't, you shouldn't complain or be a bit surprised when they return the favor in kind, and does it to you, the way you done it to them... Just my own take, anyway. -- Semper Eadem

It's amazing how fast a guy can learn on the way down. some might say that same about people that say stuff like that, but probably wouldn't because they wouldn't, but you don't like cheaters, and they don't approve of people that say stuff like that, but what if one of them was a cheater. take out cheaters in that quote and put in some race, and you're pretty much like the KKK not liking other because they dont do what you want.

| Tell you what, pal...I'm so sick and tired of getting murdered by cheaters I'm gonna see if I can get me some of those bots. Every game I play online has cheaters --aimbots, armorbots, wallhacks, bright skins, dozens of other mods that give an unfair competitive advantage. Some servers are dedicated cheat servers for the "clans" who all are server admins. I really don't believe there's any such thing as a "clean" server anymore.

Even if they only cause us to 1 minute of time on our server they have caused us a monetary loss. | Did the US Army say this? Right off the top I think people who cheat on group video games are total scumbags. Having said this I doubt the the Army cares they just want people to play the game and maybe get interested in joining. The USA gets what they want data on possible recruits. They have much more important things to deal with then a bunch of wazoo's cheating on a Video game. I wouldn't be surprised but what they are noting who is cheating with an eye on recruiting them in the future for their cyber related MOS's. Wouldn't it be funny if these cheaters got a knock on the door, opened it to find a person in a black suit and sunglasses who gives the young person a choice join the Army or get dragged into court. Works for me;) -- Real Men use Vacuum tubes, 25 pound filament transformers, and plate voltages no less then 2400 volts...BPL I'm coming to get you

| My .02 I haven't played AA in a while. I simply got feed up with all the different hacks/hackers out there. When I first started playing the game it was great. But, then again, there was very few hackers at the time. unfortunately after a period of time the game became virtually unplayable (I wouldn't last 60 sec. before being taken out with a head shot) I consider myself to be an average player. When someone jumps on a server and starts killing half your team every single round all with headshots, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's going on. It's a shame, AA was a pretty decent game before all the hackers showed up. -- Hey Harry, you know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon and a thing that has two hundred thousand moving parts built by the lowest bidder. | nonsense This is silly. I've had to deal with cheaters before and it isn't much fun. I know that it is their game. That doesn't change the fact that the response is over the top. Just because a rule is broken doesn't mean that any response is therefore acceptable. Constantly referring to "the bad guys" and suggesting that cheating at a game amounts to cyber crime and criminal misuse of game code is stupid. You would think, from the tone, that he was hunting down a serial killer, not trying to deal with online game cheating. Just ban them for a while and stop with the melodramatics.
I'm hoping the overwrought tone is to pacify people complaining about cheaters and not an actual indication of the mentality of the people involved.

| Re: Then on the other hand... Actually they can "afford" armor, DoD just never ordered it. As far as why the Army is spending money on this, it is another tool for recruiting. | The money comes from the recruiting budget and it is a fenced funding track, meaning recruiting is all it can be spent on.
