Still the unoffical motto of New York is
TAX THEM TIL THEY LEAVE.

They waste taxpayers money fighting in court to get more of the taxpayers money.
Maybe if they would just give up, they would have enough tax revenue that they wouldn't need to tax VoIP. |

Federal Government gives you three hundred in tax cuts, your realestate taxes go up by more than that amount, it all works out in the end!!
At times its like states should have some of their powers for levying taxes taken from them from them, or atleast have the muzzel put on maybe have taxes approved by the federal government.:p -- I tie a rope around my penis and jump from a tree, don't you wanna grow up to be just like me!!!! |

No, the official slogan for New York is: said by Rockstar Games: "... It's a great place to leave."
Why else do you think that they chose NY as the model for the city in Grand Theft Auto 3? |

California wants to steal more tax money so more brainless cubicle workers at the DMV can retire at 50 with a 90% pension.
State pension contributions go from under $200M per year to over $2B per year in just 4 years and they want US all to pay for the state corruption? State spending goes up over 40% over just 4 years and they want us to pay for their corruption?
No thanks. It's revolution time. First was Davis...the rest of the Sacramento hacks are next. A $100 billion a year should be quite enough for the greedy hacks to waste. |

Let the actors and rest of Hollywood pay for the taxes. Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead in California as I hear its a great place to be taxed to death (and without representation, too). |

I expect they will try to grab money from VoIP as well and give more monopoly powers to incumbent telcos (SBC mostly). There is huge lobbying from telcos.
It's not about Red state/Blue state. It's about money and who pays the policians! |

How much are those sales taxes? And "intangibles" taxes, and ad valorem rates for god knows what? Having property in both Florida and Illinois I don't know which is worse tax-wise. And coming from IL, that's saying something.
Isn't Florida a greenish-grey state, The Mildew State?
Anyway, the only reason the FCC is trying to prohibit state taxation of these services is because once they grow up the Feds want that revenue. Don't kid yourself that this has anything to do with consumers. |

It's about money and who pays the policians! Just love how THAT is called "lobbying" (for a "cause"), whereas anywhere else - outside our gov't - it would be considered bribing.
But yeah.. I don't get these guys. The FCC, a federal goverment body/agency/whatever has told the states to back off, yet the STATES are saying 'no'.
So I wonder if there's any contingency in place for this sort of thing. Like "I'm the federal gov't and I said no! Now go to your room!" |
