Comments on news posted 2004-12-31 13:00:56: As mentioned previously, the folks behind the now defunct Torrent site Suprnova had been expecting to get busted for some time, and were tossing around ideas for a less centralized (and therefore less MPAA susceptible) solution. ..

I just don't get it

I understand "freedom of speech" motto, but if you are sure that the law will come after you if you do something against it, why do it?

I mean can't the bittorrent hosters for motion pictures and mp3 files see that sooner or later, they're not going to be able to fight with the army of legal experts these folks have with them?

Why are some people obsessed with giving people free movies and songs, that I can't answer... Folks end up watching movies for free and listening to songs for free, and in the end someone else either goes to jail, has his/her equipment confiscated, and be the target of a bajillion law suits...

I don't get it...

Really the future?

Appears to be something like eMule meets BT. Anyone think this really is the future or a lotta hype?

If I understand it correctly, everything is P2P, so then what stops abuse of the lists or whatever?

I think we're left with more questions than answers at this point.

Don't count me in

It will contain spyware/adaware, so don't count me in, ever.

Seperate spy/adware or ad banner like Opera?

I wasnt sure after reading the /. article if it's going to have a bundled adware/spyware program or if there will be an ad-banner box in the application?

What is really needed is to distribute the tracker

Distribute the tracker, not the torrent files. I remember Slackware's tracker was unusable for about a couple of days after the realease of Slackware 10.

Re: I just don't get it

I think it has more to do with rebellion in youth. They think it's a small thing to rebel with so they do it. Or maybe it is because they are flat broke and paying $20 for a cd or dvd is not exactly within their grasps.

I know plenty of students who work 40 hour weeks and school who really can barely afford to eat , calling home to their family every other week for $100. They get the nice free internet from school so they use it.

As far as sharing. I love to share to my knowledge of computers and software writing for no charge. I actually enjoy seeing some one say that they understand something after I explain it.

Maybe they get the same feeling but from sharing movies or music ? There is however a lot of things I just don't get that i could turn into a comedy special.

Yup but I still don't get it...

I'm not very old, just 31, and I was a headbanging heavy metal kid in late 80s and early 90s. So I was rebellious myself a bit but... oh well...

Probably a stupid question...

...why can't new torrent files just be posted on a newsgroup? Lord knows they have NEVER been able to stop posting stuff to a newsgroup...

Just wondering if I'm missing something

Re: I just don't get it

know what's funny, someone has to have bought the cd or dvd to get the copy out, and i know i let people borrow or make them copies of cd's and stuff that i have so they can enjoy it, so in the end their going to get it for free anyway.

It still needs a tracker for the torrent to work. (it doesn't need an index listing, however)

Well I guess we'll se sticking to our PRIVATE trackers to continue to use bittorrent's awesome file delivery methods.

In time all of these SCUMBAG Pirates will go...

They can run, but they can't hide. If you steal copyright protected works or if you FACILITATE theft or distribution of copyright works, you go to PRISON like any other SCUMBAG CRIMINAL.

Re: I just don't get it

actually if you read the recent article on internet pirating »www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.0···ite.html (www.wired.com) you'd realize there isn't someone buying it. I know I wouldn't go buy a cd just to rip and put on the internet to share with a million people.

From what I've read exeem makes everyone a tracker. Not sure if it's correct though, because there isn't a whole lot of information out there on it that I can find at least.

what next

isn't anyone upset that the mpaa/riaa is using taxpayer govt services at their will. the fbi is not here to look for torrent site ops. Need to find Osama and leave internet alone. If MPAA wants fight that's cool, there will be no geneva code in this war.

Funny how most of the staunch tough talking posters always do so in an anonymous fashion.
