| The Age of Yellow Journalism on BBR I made my point yesterday. The stories are becoming more and more sensationalistic...why? Where is the voice of reason before ten thousand far-leftists start screaming conspiracy theory?

| Re: The Age of Yellow Journalism on BBR What a shame...since the whole point of journalism is to know your facts and understand what's going on before you step onto the street/paper/site and start speaking.
In this point and with things like this, it drives the "credibility" of BBR down through the floor. Not only does this site operate as a business but as a "consumer activist" website. The whole point of being pro-consumer on the otherhand is to offer the points of "both" sides, pro & con differing points of view and allowing the individual reader to make the choice based on what they can figure out...not what they are told.
Once this site started the government/google/doing it's bidding/etc line it stepped over a "news/consumer" website into a rumor-monger site. If I want that I'll goto wonkette... -- The Art of War Bush/Cheney 2004;Conservative Party of Canada "Excessive law is no law." - Cicero

Hi All,
Sergey asked me to pass this on:
In short, There is no censorship here. We are embarassed that our image index is not updated as frequently as it should be. Expect a refresh in the near future.
In the meantime, you can just search on Google Web Search for [abu graib photos] [abu graib photos] [google.com] to get plenty of what you are looking for.
From me:
Please don't ascribe some dating issues on images to some political motive, we take this kind of stuff very seriously. We have to comply with the law, but there is no law yet on the books reguiring that companies in the United States take down pictures that might be embarassing ot the current administration.

| Something else missing? Is it just me or do Yahoo and Lycoris (generally) only show the thumbnails but the links to the off-site pictures are broken or link to home pages instead of the pictures? Only a very few of the 20 or so links I followed actually led to the picture represented by the thumbnail.
What else is going on here?

| Google image search One bad thing about these image searches is that it makes it very easy for folks to rip off pictures from other people's websites and use them on their website, which is very rude, IMO. for those who have websites: please ask before you take some one else's image and slap it on your site or even hotlink to it! | |

| Did you turn off "safe search"? »images.google.com/images?q=abu+g···e+Search
i saw all sorts of crazy dead bodies etc.
see the "preferences" next to the search window?
click it, scroll down and hit "do not filter my search results"
the lack of lyndie is pretty odd though
google has always played censor at the drop of a hat--filtering out kazaa lite and sites that hosted or deswcribed it, complying with china's censorship requests etc.
censorship to google is business as usual

| Re: Google = 1997 Excite Honestly, whenever I search for something on google that shouldn't come up with results about buying something, nothing comes up.
IMO, you just don't know how to "search" properly. Final Fantasy will return a lot about final fantasy and probably a lot of people trying to sell you stuff. Final Fantasy XI skillchain list is going to turn up several links in reference to skillchains and very few in reference to buying crap.

| I was wrong I take back everything I charged before the election obout DSL Reports putting up Bush-bashing "news" articles to sway readership for the election.
It is obvious that the desire to Bush-bash (even if it is reduced to hinting at bizarre conspiracy theories) goes beyond the recent election.

But they are definitely not censoring »www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&···re+photo otherwise it would be stupid as all can get to not censor the same thing from your main product.

| Are the pictures X rated? I have no desire to go around digging for images of what a few soldiers decided in their sick mind what would be fun.
A possible explaination:
Weren't many of these photos X-Rated? Maybe Google is not indexing any of them because of fear they might accidentally show an X-Rated picture. With Google used by so many people, a kid could easily stumble across them.
I also notice that the beheadings, which are 1,000,000 times more of a crime than the Abu Graib pictures are also not there, or my first couple search tries didn't bring them up.

Also, it doesn't affect these particular search results mentioned in the story, but make sure you click "Preferences" at the top of the Google search page and go to the SafeSearch Filtering section. Change it to "Do not filter my search results" unless you have kids in the house. Otherwise you are going to think much more censorship is going on hehe.
