 Ok

Holy Toledo I just junked my pants. DSL for less than $20 that's more than 1mbps???? I am now paying $26.95 a month for my, I wonder if I could get my price lowered. I wonder if they will lower the other DSL packages as well. Hell maybe they'll bring 6mbps back.

It will now not be known as only $3 more, but around $3 less for A-O-Hell!

Yup very cool...but notice you have to have the all distance package which last time I checked was $48.95 a month at least in atech region.

Wake up MCI!!

Why haven't MCI and its' resellers lowered prices, or increased speed? They must be looking to get out of xDSL service, or they think recent FCC rulings will force them out and they intend to suck up every buck possible until then. I'm getting kind of tired of paying $50 a month for 1.5/768, even for static IP service. They better get off the dime pretty soon.

Nobody is forcing anybody out.

Pffftt!

$49 (all distance) + $20 ( 1.5/384 dsl ) + $10 (misc taxes and universal slush fund ) = ~$79

or

$52 ( 4/384 Comcast HSI ) + $20 (Packet8) = ~$72

So Comcast delivers over 3 times faster downloads and Packet8 offers more calling features for $7 less per month than SBC.

And Comcast is actually available in too rural for DSL Coloma township.

Sure looks like a good deal either way to me. This is called COMPETITION. Some people will be scared off from VOIP because of poor uptime/911 issues, and others hate cable or phone so much they will go to the other no matter what. Either way looks like a win to consumers to me.

And of course, neither the comcast deal or SBCs deal will be available for everyone/everywhere, but it's a start.

I don't know if its just me, but after doing a speed test on the SBC speed test page I clicked the link for the offerec SBC speeds... 1.5/384 wasn't listed to my supprise 1.5 - 3.0/384 or 786 - 1.4/128 was. Now myabe they were hiding the it because its what I already have. Weird. Oh and don't for get the port 25 closing GRRRRRR.

I would take a hard line phone line anyday over VOIP (if that is what Packet8 is) at this point. VOIP just isn't quite there for me.

Re: post subject

uhm, port 25 hasn't been blocked for anyone yet (at least no one who's posted about it yet) and isn't that big an issue since your email provider should allow other ports anyways.

Secondly, they don't show it as 384 upload yet because they're not done converting all the CO's and RT's over to it, but as they do the people on it get bumped up automatically.

I think this is cool, that comcast $52 price for 4/584 doesn't include regular cable though, which I'm thinking is a minimum of $10, to get the best price they offer for their cable internet. Therefore SBC still comes in under that figure.

(Numbers based on COX cable in my area since I can't get exact pricing for Comcast since it's not in my area.)

Ok, $48.95 to be exact.
Anyway, from the tmcnet article:
"The All Distance bundle delivers unlimited local and nationwide direct-dial long distance calling, Caller ID, voicemail and the choice of two SBC calling features for just $48.95 a month. SBC Yahoo! DSL Express is one of the fastest-growing high speed Internet services in the United States, offering download speeds of 384 Kbps - 1.5 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 384 Kbps, virtually unlimited e- mail account storage, industry-leading safety and security features, and award-winning parental controls package.

Re: Ok

Close but no cigar SBC.

People know how to add and compare.

This is still a Comms Bundle in excess of 70 bucks a month with only a portion of the feature & plan benefits of VOIP.

Priced about 30%+ more than one needs to pay.

Re: Pffftt!

He included Packet8. I'm not sure what their $20 plan is, but other VOIP providers at least do unlimited domestic calling at that rate.

Either that or go with another provider like I do with DirecTV with Tivo.

I've been without cable tv since I cancelled Cox back in February, haven't missed it except for very rarely when something is on sci-fi or comedy central that I want to see. I subscribe to netflix, get pretty good reception (considering our apartment is half buried in the ground) for local channels, and Buy all the TV shows that I miss.
