If everytime America produces some type of new techology, we'll never expand it because Congress will be all over it making stupid laws. -- It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways. |

| Stupid laws or stupid taxes? I just love the part about "hungry states" that need the tax money VOIP will generate.
It's one thing to pass laws that aid consumers so they can make informed decisions but to add fees, taxes and nonsense fund payments is ridiculous. |

Please assist in stopping the attempts to tax new technologies like Voice over IP solutions (such as Vonage.com, etc). Americans have been fed up with all the taxes and extra charges placed on their phone bills by telephone companies over the years. Now a great service is functioning and offers low cost solutions for families and businesses, yet Congress and the states what to step in and try to find ways to tax these services. That is not a request of the people. Congress and the states need to focus on issues that we as the people want resolved. Raising the cost of living by adding more taxes to our phone service (something very indispensable these days), is not doing us any service. It is an appalling disservice. Please end these attempts now.

| Look, voip is a virtual dialtone-- copper dial tone is real dial tone backed up by an electrical current and uses in some intances (still) real switching equipment.. Yes, one day one will replace the other.. but not today and the USF and taxes should reflect that... NO to state sales tax forever.. and Maybe down the road more USF and federal FCC taxes "reasonable people - 2-5% of the service fees" ONLY tied to QOS "QUALITY OF SERVICE" guarantees that you enjoy under electrical current POTS copper service THAT is a level playing field for the conumer as well as the baby bells... BTW the baby bells are still dragging their feet on fiber based broadband.. anyone can dance a good jig and run cable... but to make it a viable competitive service NO, not today, not tomorrow, the cable companies are laughing at the dance... they can run split nodes at half the price to double throughput so compeittion, Nah maybe in 7-15 years will there be.. |

But you see, the reason those taxes are on phone service is because the phone service providers never really objected--after all, you had to buy from them, right?
Other industry-specific federal taxes either are directly related (gas tax builds roads) or on "sin" industries (like liquor.) Ma Bell never really minded having her customers get hit, and now her offspring are reaping their justly deserved reward of a tax inequity. TFB!
