I'm not a customer of theirs, but what's the big deal going from 3 to 4Mbps? They are still stuck with a crappy 256k upload! |

Charter doesn't even have all of it's areas up to 3meg. 4meg? Maybe in 2 years. Everyone left 3meg in the dust. Charter is just giving it to it's customers now. It is great being a Charter customer /sarcasm. |

| What about the plus package people
I have the plus package and I don't see the plus package getting anything more. I would guess the download would speed up but I don't think we should have to pay 30 dollars more for just 128k of upload more. We better be getting more upload or more download then the regular tier. I didn't really like paying 30 more for just 256k upload extra. I did it only cause I host MOHAA once in a while and like to have enough upload to have more people on the server without lag. Now does someone know who to email to find out about the plus package? |

1 edit | reply to Davros866 Re: Where's the UPLOAD?!?!?!?
They need to stop following their 50% master Comcast lead. It's obvious other ISP are going to play ball and offer more upload on their basic tier. As I said here.
»Re: Yet another ISP goes up in speed....
Looking at the news on this site. The ISP forums on this site. And past threads I've linked in the Insight forum here and on my site. Clearly shows that this new tier upgrade. Might not if fact compete as well as Insight thinks in some of their markets.
While I applaud the move. I'm not sure it was as well thought out as they would have us believe. It is at least a start in the right direction. And it is very positive that we are seeing the company now communicate on this site a bit better and with the press.
When the 384 tier upgrade came out. Information was hard to find. The company wouldn't confirm anything etc. They have done a better job in this regard this time.
There is room for improvement though. Official forum support here. Is one thing they should consider. Like so many other ISP do here. SBC one of their main competitors does this in the related forum here.
"I have the plus package and I don't see the plus package getting anything more."
As to this comment. Read the forum threads. An upgrade for the 384 tier is coming as well. Yes they should have released it with this upgrade - if they had been smart about it. But I digress. It is coming. I've passed all the information I have in regards to that - in the Insight forum. It will either be 6000/512 or 6000/768. From what I'm told - it looks more and more like it will be 6000/512. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Oncology Group Cable Modem Diagnostics |

It's stories like this that make you wonder if we aren't so behind Japan in broadband speed (not close but not that far behind either) just how much capacity at what speeds are these networks capable of and is it just hidden? Have these companies just not allowed these speeds for one reason or another? |

They have to have some sort of garunteed cash flow, otherwise in six months when something bigger and better comes along they couldn't still compete. I am a insight customer and proud of the minimal upgrade that I will be getting since in some areas of the country they still get less speed for more price, and in others the opposite. Heh I was paying 55 a month for 1.5/328 dsl now I'm paying 44.95 a month for 4/256. I think I'm doing good now ;-> |

I just wish the upload was more comparable. Time Warner has 384kbps as their base upload speed. |

Acutally they are getting an upload boost from 128 to 256. That's double.

| Actually it is pretty bad. When you consider one of the competitors is giving 3000/768 for the same price Insight will charge for the current 3000/128 soon to be 4000/256. The price before bundling or owning your own modem. Is $44.95. Which is what Verizon is asking for their 3000/768 tier. Yes extra download is always a big plus. But higher upload speeds are becoming a must. And yes for legitimate purposes and task. Not just P2P. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Oncology Group Cable Modem Diagnostics |

| reply to Davros866 Last I checked 4000 is more than 3000 and 256 is more the 128 and free upgrade
While it's not the best in the world , it's progress in the right direction. 384k woulda have been better I think but maybe they prefer to do it in small stages , if it works well maybe we can see another increase. |

1 edit | You can defend them all you like. You can be happy getting taken advantage of. This is America - that is your right. Yes this upgrade is nice and all. But it's far from being competitive price or speed wise. If you actually look at the market without blinders on or an agenda. You'll see that for price and speeds - Insight still doesn't get it. If your happy just browsing the net faster = great. Some of us prefer to use the connection we pay for to the greatest extent possible. We also like to know we are getting value for our money. If you compare this speed increase to at least 2 major Insight competitors. We are not getting value / speed for our money. Unfortunately some of us don't have the choice to move to those vendors.
256 is a long way from 768. Insight will only give us 512 maybe at the max for $79.95 / $69.95 bundled. When Verizon gives you that upload for $20 less you have to wonder who is taking who to the cleaners. And if you rich enough to not give a crap about $20 extra dollars a month - good for you. But for a good majority of people $20 is still worth something. If you can't look at the data and say - hang on something is a bit odd here. Then you must work for Insight or have some type of agenda. It's that simple. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Oncology Group Cable Modem Diagnostics |

| reply to Davros866 Because a 128Kbps is the least they could upgrade it. If they were really looking to please customers they would make it 384Kbps; like most companies like BrightHouse have as a STANDARD. I believe that it will take another cable company moving into Insight's territory in order for us 40 dollar a month users to get 384 upload. That's why they did it, to make room for a forced upgrade in the future.:p |

| I don't know. They would have to see competition in all their major markets for them to take action. For example, there are three cable companies in my market (Insight, Sigecom, and Ohio Valley Cable) that offer internet access. Then there's all the DSL providers. Does this competition affect Insight? Not really, but then again, none of the other cable companies' service is even as good as Insight's. |
