6Mbps DSL

Everyone's been getting 6.0Mbps DSL too, with an upstream up to 608kbps - that beats any cable offering. Of course, you've got to be within 9500 feet to get it, and at that distance, sometimes it's still not possible.

I want my VDSL. =)

Actually, Cogeco also offers a 10Mbit/1Mbit package.

3.3 is fine for downstream

Lets see some Upstream increases, 256k is just not enough.

 Who Cares?

I'm tired of all this hype over faster and faster connections. When are we going to get a reasonably priced low-end option (1.5/128 for $24.99)?

EDIT: Added missing start parenthesis.

Same caps?

Faster speed with the same caps? Cool! People can hit their caps quicker! Instead of taking 3 weeks to hit the cap it will only take a week and half.

I think of it as less time wasted. Get it all done at once.

Yeah I mean why wait to the end of the month to get capped when you can do it in a week?

Re: Who Cares?

I agree. I really don't need the extra 3.5Mbps as much as I could use the extra $20 a month in my pocket.

Re: 6Mbps DSL

Too bad we can't order it anymore!

Being on the left coast with Dane, Cogeco and OOL aren't within our sphere of cable options. For the most part, there's either 3000/256 (Comcast, Adelphia, Charter) or 3000/384 (TWC).

Well Cogeco is a Canadian company, so you would only be able to get it in Canada.

Re: Who Cares?

I'm enjoying the speed cap war. It's long overdue!

SBC's $26.95 1500/256 comes real close, although now you can only get it as part of a bundle.

Many companies have already toyed with "lite" packages, but they usually either come with very low speeds or restrictive throughput caps.

Re: Same caps?

yeah. if the country i lived in (usa) had lower speeds for more money than a country i thought was second-rate to mine (canada) i'd probably be whining and complaining too.

Lets assume, for the sake of argument, that they capped you at 50GB (52428800KB). Anecdotal evidence suggests a higher limit, but we'll low ball for the sake of this discussion.

At 1.5mbps (180KB/sec) it would take 80 hours to download your quota.

At 5.0mbps (620KB/sec) it would take 23 hours to reach your quota.

Despite the limit, they still save you 2.3 days worth of time waiting for a downloads to complete. That's VERY worthwhile, don't you think?

Re: Same caps?

I don't understand.
Just because there are higher caps dosent mean u have to download more. I mean what is the average cap 20 gbs What are you downloading that is 20 gb. I have never used 20 gb in a month
