Looks like mine will be arriving in the mail in 2-4 weeks. Not that I have dialup or anything, but this'll save me a lot of time whenever I format. -- "You gave up on me a long time ago, I can't say I blame you..." |

More like you would to to Microsoft website and get the latest updates that aren't on the CD. The CD isn't the end all for Windows updating. It's just a way for dialup and non-Internet users to get all the current updates without having to download massive megs of data. |

Same here. Downloading all the updates usually ends up taking more time than the installation itself. |

Of course it didn't take long for someone to bitch about Microsoft handing of free CD copies of the patches.

The shear number and size of patches needed to keep M$ products relatively secure have single handedly made dail-up service obsolete. I think they should offer a quarterly security CD subscription service at no cost to users from here on out. |

| Quarterly updates would be nice. It would be very nice if you could slipstream them into a Windows install (it would be nice if you could slipstream any update other than SP1). I know I would not have to patch a thing upon reformat if slipstreaming was a possibility. -- Optimum Online All The Way |

True. Microsoft could start handing out free new computers will Linux on it and someone would find something wrong with it.
Wait till the responses build up. You will see post like "This must be another way for Microsoft to take over the world" or "it must be a way for Microsoft to install new spyware on your computer to report all your activities to major league baseball". |

Isn't SP2 due out sometime early 2004? If so, wont it replace a this disk so that on format, you would only need SP2, or am I mistaken? |

Too funny. I'm sure more will come.
I'll definitely get one so formats will be easier, but may not need it. That what True Image Server is for. -- Join Team Discovery today!|12.5 Ghz of Crunching Power. |

I've put in my order as well. Now when helping people out I can just pop in this CD and they will be reasonably updated. |

That's possible, but this CD also patches previous versions of Windows. |

| reply to haroldo Isn't that just for Windows XP? The disk they are distributing has updates for everything from Windows 98 on up. If you have XP I guess you can wait for SP2, but will they offer it on disk at no charge? I'm guessing it will be on their website for download, which would still make this disk useful by getting all the updates that are available up to SP2 and then getting the new SP.
I'm also assuming components from previous updates will still be necessary. As I recall all the other service packs I downloaded required the previous service packs to be installed first. Then again I don't have XP so I have no idea whether it's the same or not. |
