| Don't download toolbars
And this is why I do not download toolbars of any kind. All of these add-ons have the potential of auto-installing spyware, adware, or malware. I like Internet Explorer (deride me if you will) and I can live with the occasional pop-up of which 99% I close without looking at anyway. -- Sign the petition to sell TechTV to Comcast

Not because of this, but because it was very flakey. It would be on some windows, but not others. Most of the windows that had it enabled didn't even show it since they didn't have any toolbars. |

I dunno.
Hell, everything you do and load on your Microsoft ran computer Microsoft owns. I think they also have power of attorney and can seize your computer at any time for any reason.
EULAs rock for the business. |

Amen. What a bunch of privacy fanatics. If that's the WORST that Google has done to its toolbar since its inception, then the sane amongst us are pretty sure that you'll live another day to get your panties in a wad about something REALLY scary.
Google has always been good about their toolbar being relatively safe. I'm sure they just tied it into the theme they had on their website for one of the bigger "holidays." No harm, no foul. Turn off PageRank, AutoFill, etc. and get on with your lives.

I've restarted my computer 3 times today (installing a new modem) and it's still the same toolbar. No black squares, no hearts, no nothing. Just the same google toolbar.
Heyyy, maybe the Google Toolbar somehow figured out that I don't particularly care for valentines day and thus it didn't change it? [/conspiracy] |

| Q: Features or Windows type?
I've three PCs all with the Toolbar. I did everything I could during the course of people freaking out over a heart background or a black background to see if I could get mine to do it -- nada.
The only thing that comes to mind are the following:
1) Are people with the hearts or black backgrounds using the "w/ Advanced Features" type of the Google Toolbar (i.e. the one that sends helpful usage information back to Google)? All of my systems use the non-Advanced installation mode, just because I didn't really see the point, and I don't agree with sending back usage information for such things.
2) Are people with the hearts or black backgrounds using the "XP Theme" or the "Classic Theme" on their XP machines? I use the Classic theme (heavily modified, including unchecking the "Folders have their own background images" option).
Just some ideas. Oh, and I've rebooted all of those PCs many times over the past 48 hours, so... *shrug* -- Making life hard for others since 1977. |
