If you ask me they need to start working on making DSL around the 3mbps mark travel further distances rather than jacking up the speed only so you have to be close to the CO -- Write that down. http://www.fanglan.org |

It's not weird. Because of PPPoE + other protocols overhead, the users would get around 84% (range 0-87%) of the cap. 608 *.842 = 512kbps. -- Who dat? Who dere? |

most users (80+%) are connected through RT, 7500ft radius which is good enough for the 6mb. Beside it's advertised as 1.5-6. You dont get 6mb unless you're within 5Kft. |

| reply to bky Many people are within 8500ft of the CO and would love to see speeds like that. I'm within about 5000ft of my CO, and if Bellsouth decided to offer speeds like that, I'd be all over it like rich nympho at a whorehouse. -- what doesn't this button do? |

Correction, max distance is 7500 not 8500, guideline by SBC service provide, DSLextreme is a reseller of SBC.
Take from SBC FAQs: SBC Yahoo DSL Expert Plus 1.5-6/384 max distance 7500 ft.
Although most people that claimed to have high througput 5.2/520 (~87% cap) are generally below 5K. -- Who dat? Who dere? |

DAMN that's a good deal, but they only give it to the people they consider to be better in CA.
It's an outrage! If you NON CA residents want that deal, you'd better start making some noise. Now is the time! Call up your TELCO, or whomever you gotta call to make noise.
Oh well, I may have to start making some noise after 2004, because I already have OOL for $50 a month and you know there is no service better than OOL speeds at our price.
The rates will go up in 2005, and I want the DSLExtreme option available whether or not I stay with OOL.

I'm not say'n it's not worth it -- but SBC's $100 deal is hardly a residential price-point. The $60 'Extreme deal is what I used to pay Charter for 1.5/.384 mbs. SBC could own the entire broadband market with a 6mbs/$60 deal. |

unlikely, Cable still has the market on their side. Beside Cable currently can provide 10Mb throughput while ADSL can only do 8. -- Who dat? Who dere? |

Same deal for me. 4150ft from my wirecenter (RT). Sprint/Centel has no plans to offer DSL at that wirecenter till 2008, and even then its iffy. Ironically, this wirecenter hosts more subscribers than another wirecenter further out the road that is already dsl ready. Private sector providers suck donkey balls. I wish Florida jumped on the bandwagon like Utah's UTOPIA project. DSL needs to be expanded to reach out further, we need a new technology of digital lines.
As of right now I am in range for DSL but my local telco is not setup for DSL. |

I really hate to brag, but I get 10 Meg up and down for only 65$/mo. wireless residential service from DLS.net. I typically see 70-90% of the advertised speed. Now I can download all the Micro$oft patches in seconds. |

OK ... add-in a SBC 3/.384 mbs tier for $45 ... now what does cable have that SBC doesn't? (cable's max speed notwithstanding) |
