Not for Long

I predict major swings to other carriers shortly, AOL's prices are way out of line.

Yeah, they are almost more stubborn with prices that Cable companies. They have this assumption that they provide "content" that's so stellar, it's worth the cost. Many people believe that, and power to them....I guess.

They are finally launching their "Netscape" discount dial-up ISP though.....

Netscape Online

Adding Netscape online for 9.95 was a good first step by AOL, it will help keep the low income subscribers that want only email, etc....

Re: Netscape Online

It just strikes me as if they are always REACTIVE, and always at the last possible second. They only began pushing broadband really in 2003....they only begin offering cheaper dial-up after they lose millions to competitors....

Now let's see how long it takes them to realize that $50+ broadband isn't a good price-point, no matter how many free concerts they're offering....

nah........... to late. when on their site even their own page works better with IE. it's pathetic. I use Mozilla, was a Netscape user and I am so disappointed in them. AOL uses IE. pathetic. they use a competitors browser.

Yes but I thought Netscape was being phased out .. at least, the browser isn't being developed anymore; I thought the whole Netscape Communications was gonna go too ... hmmm ??? Anybody know for sure? I still like Netscape 7.x browser, btw .. LOL.

UOL Wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You wanna know why they are not on the list... BECAUSE they would be embarrassed!

I use to be a NetZero user and still ahve ym netzero email addreess after 4 years. I use to use Juno and I still ahve that address too.

Then they combined and made UOL to take down AOL.
Interesting how UOL, has WELL over 5 Million subscribers, well ahead of ELNK....LMAO!

People are after the cheaper rates. Remember when NetZero had this commercial out about don't let nobody jack up your prices; it's the same internet, but why pay more? IT WORKED!

If I was to be forced to go back to dial-up, I would only go to NETZRO, JUNO or another $9.95 place. BUMP ELNK, AOL, ATT, MSN, with their jacked up prices. There's a market for the smaller guy in dialup and UOL has found it.... GO GET EM UOL!

 AOL an ISP?

I don't really consider AOL (and MSN for that matter) an ISP in the sense of most of the other "straight" service providers.

It would be interesting how many of those subscribers bring their own access via some other ISP... I would guess that many broadband users will use the ISP of their cable company etc... and pay the "value added" AOL membership on top of that....

That's what the stats tell me anyway... I'm sure if you did the math, it's likely that AOL's market share as a service provider is probably greater in the dialup arena (when AOL is providing both access and the aol portal) than it is in the broadband arena.

What is important, and probably what the stats do show, is that if I'm an advertiser, I can get broad coverage across ISPs (and across GEO regions) by getting my message seen on AOL... Most ISPs are GEO locked, and that's very important to note.
