 Whorein Hatch

As I've said before...only when corporations and other groups are no longer permitted to make campaign contributions (I think only INDIVIDUALS should be able to) then this kind of political whoring will continue.

And this scumbag will heretofore be known as Whorein.

And who the hell does this F represent...

The constituents of HIS state...or Constitution shreading douchebags in Hollywood.

Voters in his state need to wake up and see that THEY ARE NOT BEING REPRESENTED.

F-word...this gets me so pissed off. These Fs bicker about each other while every damn one of them is corrupt as hell. The whole lot of those greedy MFers in the Senate need to be thrown out on their asses and made to get real jobs like Joe Davis here in Cali.

I third that.

Soon maybe he will propose to make Microsoft an exempt from antitrust. RIAA & MPAA isn't natural monopoly, like electric power. If that stupidity gets passed, we will again see $20+ albums (online or CDs) and more and more lawsuits without any restrains.

Why?

I see no compelling argument to do it. I don't understand how we (as a representative nation that is) decided organizations like MLB, the NFL, the NHL, the NBA, etc. should have high holy status and also be exempt from antitrust laws. How is it that ANYONE is exempt from any law? What happened to the concept of equal application and equal protection under the law? (gee...while I'm at it, why exactly is it that politicians are exempt from do not call? I guess the answer is "because we're the ones who made the law".)

It really doesn't matter.

I think the RIAA's boytoys in the Senate could pass a law making the RIAA a government entity, and it wouldn't matter. It would simply prove what bought-off idiots our congresspeople are, and serve to further piss off the populace and make them hate the entertainment industry eveh more than they do now, if that's even possible.

What nobody in charge seems to realize is that music and movies are frills; they are not necessities, they are not a public utility. We don't need Vivendi, Warner Brothers, and Sony Music. They are completely optional entities.

$20 CDs and online downloads for music? Great; that'll just make "piracy" (arrr, mateys!) go further underground.

I haven't bought a CD in 5 years, save -directly- from a band I liked, so whatever. I really don't see anything new and compelling coming out that makes me really give a crap. Nothing's going to save this business. Nothing.

(Although, I just did read Britney's new sh*t-coated album is number one. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? WE ARE SURROUNDED BY MORONS!)

One thing is for sure though, anyone who votes for Bush next November under the guise "HES SAVING US FROM TEH TERRUR!" needs to be promptly get tattooed with "stupid" on his head. Never before has an administration and it's lapdog congress been so sickeningly friendly to big business and so into "servicing" the average citizen (George Carlin's definition, of course.)

Goverment for the people by the people

I think that in the last 30 years of so, our form of goverment has changed from being a goverment for the people by the people to a goverment by a few for whoever can contribute to my canpaing fund. the only way to stop this. for one brave politician to come up with legislation like this one.

no corporation, action committee, law firm (or individial lawyer), think tank, or any form organaiztion be allowed to give to any politian (this would include paid trips, gifts, or anything). the only form of contribution that will be allowed would be by individuals and that would be caped at $250.00. corporations will be barred from asking there employees to contribute to a specific campaing.
tv and radio networks will have to donate all those running for office equal time for ads for free, since they are using our em spectrum.

if something like this is passed then all will be well again with goverment.

to get him voted out of office. How 'bout an email campaign?

You have nailed it right on the head. Our system of government has left the citizenry behind and become self-serving. Enough is enough.

 We the people, for sale

The more laws, the more scofflaws.

The more unjust and unreasonable laws, the less respect there is for law in general.

The only way to explain this provision is that they bought the right politicians. The public interest has nothing to do with it.

People will seek out fair-use material when they get tired of paying the monopolist's fee. When there's no money left in the monopolist's pocket to bribe the politicians, the law will be repealed.

Silly way to run a government.

The ineffective spam legislation is also a joke. People and companies will obtain more effective spam filtering, and use it more aggressively (www.spambayes.org). If someone doesn't want to see your commercial messages, they'll usually manage to avoid them (as TiVo has enabled us to do in our house).

Side note: PA is one of the states that passed a Super-DMCA law, which essentially outlawed firewalls and NAT routers because of overbroad language. This law is effectively ignored, because it is unenforceable, and unjustifiable.

What an idiot

I guess each party has to have an idiot, Republican's have
Senator Hatch, and the Democrats have Senator Byrd. I can't believe Hatch come from Utah. He has really lost touch with his constituency. Doesn't this idiot realize
it the RIAA's monopoly that is causing the problem. Doesn't he realize the RIAA and the MPAA are not companies
but trade organizations. The RIAA painted themselves into this corner and they are going to have to get themselves out. Well I will add this brain fart to his other one about blasting hard drives.

 Blood in the water

So the suits at the riaa are frightened enough for this sort of tactic..hehe.
I feel like a shark that's just detected a nice fat seal bleeding in the water.
Time to POUR ON the counter suits, ladies and gentlemen.
You might also want to inform your congressional reps that support of the riaa puts them on the "bought and paid for" list in an election year.

Well... we are talking about Utah after all! The entire population of the state ought to hop in a bus or two and drive to DC to pick up this idiot and take him home.
