Comments on news posted 2003-11-02 12:14:18: While at least five US cable providers have increased downstream speeds in what several claim is an act of "customer appreciation", there's hints that upstream increases could be in the works as well. ..

We Can Only Hope

All I ask is to double the speed from 365 kbps to around 750.
Then I'll be happy.

adelphia is offensive alright

with adelphia jacking up my total bill in the vicinity of 30%, they could have kept their upgrade from 3000/128 to 3000/256. its not like i can do anything to take advantage of the bigger upload like run a server. all it means is when i attach pictures to my posts here they go a bit quicker. oh and they added about 8 redundant channels to my cable.

 Can You Hear Me Now?

I too welcome the speed increase! Do you think this may be a prelude to offering video phone service? Uhhhhhhh...

I'm in OOL too but if RR takes it to 512kbps I may start thinking about switching? Considering the price/tech support/email etc...

Customer Appreciation!!!!!!!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.......

Raising speeds is all for ONE reason. MONEY!!! I have said it before and I'll say it again.... These companies are only increasing speeds so that each subscriber will reach their alotted monthly bandwidth more quickly which means they can start charging more money for more gigabytes.

We've all read it here before... Comcast sends out these warning letters to people who have supposedly used up their (as yet undefined) monthly bandwith and face having their accounts suspended.

These companies are just in the testing phase right now to see if there is some kind of "average" usage among households. As soon as they establish a base reference, they'll come with a dollar amount and begin charging.

Just remember when it happens.... You heard it here first.

Hehe.. me too. Cable gives you a (usually) fast pipe to often crummy routing, and latency that could be just about anything from minute to minute. Someday folks will understand that there's a lot more to a quality broadband connection than just the potential maximum speed of the "last mile" connection.

My 6000/600 DSL connection costs more than cable, but I know exactly what I'm getting for my money.

Re: Sure

Good thing about this is that Time Warner has never ever ever ever sent me a letter about my bandwidth usage. Does this mean that there are no caps? Probably not, but when my bandwidth gets excessive (200 gb or more) I still haven't hit the caps... which is fine with me.

I honestly don't see that happening on a large scale.

Only with those companies that have a total cap on bandwidth used. I exceed 200 GB a month and have no issues.

·Aliant Communicati..

 *coughs*

In my area there are two ISPs. Rogers Cable and Aliant Telecom. Rogers offers 1500/192 and the phone company offers 1500/768. I only have rogers cause of it's 10 bucks cheaper because we have cable tv too. I would lover Rogers to increase it a bit. Especially my lantenty. It is always at least 300ms. I hate it!
