Holy Shat

from their website

"The FiberPath 500 is built on robust technology that is an industry first - it allows service providers to deploy networks using either BPON (ITU G.983, 622 Mbps downstream/155 Mbps upstream) or GPON (ITU G.984, 1.2 Gbps downstream/622 Mbps upstream) network protocols. The network protocol is software selectable."

If only we had those types of networks, so 100 users can use 622mbps of upload speed, there would be no more caps on the ool network ill tell you that

Lets see it!

That would be great if it were to be carried out.

I live in Ohio (cleveland area). I would love to see that type of speed to be inplimented.

Though I think it is a long way off.

Now this is how it should be done.....

It looks like someone here has looked forward more than just a few months and has seen what is really needed.

If this works, they can count on having the lion's market share with the technology to prevent them from play catch up years from now.

Too bad more real companies don't think like this co-op.

Hey Bellsouth !!!

quote:

"We can't live on dial tone alone," says Bascom Mutual Telephone General Manager Dennis Depinet.

Do you fat-cat execs hear that ?! If you want to really compete with the MSOs, roll the fibre already!

still waiting...

I'm still waiting for cable or DSL....

At least I have wireless access where I’m at.

Wow I read the article and this might come to me after all. Tiffin, Ohio is only about 10 miles away!

hmm

Lot's of companies make promises only to scale back in the future. Hopefully this will come true but I am skeptical.

Outstanding!!!

Truly outstanding. Much better than the RBOC's LTTC (Lies to the consumer).

fiber to the pole/premesis

now if i'm not mistaken dsl cant go through fiber lines , so that would eliminate dsl in the areas with fiber to the pole now wouldnt it?

there's no need to run dsl over it, the fiber terminating equipment could have a nice cat5 jack built into it giving you 100mbps full duplex with the head end, a lot faster than DSL could give you =P

ya thats true, a 622 Mbps upstream will send a whole dvd in like 10 minutes. And a 1.2 Gbps downstream can receive one in about 2 mins..God i want this connection

Re: Hey Bellsouth !!!

It would even be harder if the phone companies were competing against muni networks, where the public owns much of it since it is their tax money.
