10% is a bit much

But as so many have already said, compared to their cable peers, OOL is still and excellent value.

Yeah, well show us the speed already.

Re: Greedy Bastards But.....

You have to remember though... even with 10/1 there comes a breaking point in peoples wallets. The speeds are great, but since I am connected to a residential service, if they cap me as an alternative to paying $60, $70, $80, $90 or even $100 bucks a month for internet, then I am all for it.

They will have to start tiered pricing, a residential service running at Business Class speeds still needs to be priced in residential pricing. I don't have a CHOICE to take a lower package. Truthfully, if they had tiered pricing NOW at the current rate, I would take half the speeds I am getting now for half the price.

But just because we get good speeds doesn't mean we need to disregard pricing.. because it is still a residential service. And don't get me started about how the price has gone up, meanwhile the Email, Usenet and DNS servers are constantly going down or working half ass.

I see no problems here....

If this were any other cable co raising rates, I would say people have a right to complain, as typical service is 1.5/256. But I am paying $66 a month after taxes and FCC fees, for a 1.5/384 DSL line. OOL customers are getting far greater speeds, for much less.

Hell, I'm paying $95 for 3500/384 while OOL has nearly 2.5x the speed for 1/2 the price. If $5 more is what it takes Cablevision to keep happy investors and 10/1Mb DL cap free service...OOL customers should still be very content.

Took them over 2 weeks to fix that problem. Talk about a refreshing nightmare.

The speeds are good, but the service has some MAJOR problems with reliability. Even if the price is sooo low for what we get, the stuff they DO provide at least needs to work. I mean, come on, I can see email not having priority, but you would think that they could fix the problematic DNS server quicker than TWO WEEKS... I mean without it, browsing the internet is kind of hard...

Use someone else's DNS server...that's what a lot of people do. I use Verizon's with my Comcast service. As for mail, I understand your troubles. No service is worth having if you have consistent problems with it.

I think you should take a look at some of the other service forums though. Sure, 2 weeks is a bit much, but not out of line for a cable co at all.

Cablevision

You get what you pay for and OOL is the best out there and its worth 50.00 a month. If they get out of hand pricewise then there's always Verizon DSL 1.5 @ 39.99 which is kinda slow when your used to OOL's lightning fast service.

Have to agree. Other cable services aren't even close to these speeds, and charge way more (i.e. Comcast Pro is 3.5/384 for $95 a month).

OOL people need to quit their whining and be glad they live in an area where they can actually *get* such insane speeds.

Here is the deal...

OK OOL is great, fast speeds and all. But once I see the new price on the bill I will be saying hello to Verizon DSL for $10 a month less....$120 a year less, more then that the first year because of introductury offers.

What all of you in other parts of the county are forgetting is the cost of living. The cost of living in the tri-state area is far beyond any other part of the country.

Re: I see no problems here....

That's the work around that has been used. Things are better now, but I shouldn't have to use another companies DNS server when I am already paying for OOL... But oh well. I will take a cap, just keep the service working. As for the email, that guy is reporting that it takes up to 3 days for mail with attachments to get delivered... he could get a roll of film sent across the country in an envelope faster than the email server could deliver those same pictures if it's true that it takes 3 days for the stuff to come through email... I can understand being delayed like 30 minutes or an hour... but 3 DAYS!? That's a little long.

I'd put the cost of living in Whippany NJ, against anywhere in Southern California...

How about Huntington or Newport Beach especially after our wonderful legislature gets done raping us with all the new taxes they want?

Whippany, NJ Aver Home Price: $403,265.95

Huntington Beach Aver Home Price: $663,771.02

Newport Beach, CA Aver Home Price: $1,994,298.66

Not to mention the ripoff areas in LA. Real Estate here is completely out of control with typical home cost inflation at about 25% per year. Orange County is a complete rip.

According to a stupid little site in the House & Home section of MSN.com they have a form where you can compare cities.

If you earned $50,000 in NYC you would have to earn this much to live in this city

$69,117 in Newport Beach
$43,945 in Huntington Beach
$55,394 in San Francisco

What expensive cities or towns are there in the Tri-State known for being a rip? NYC being expensive I'm sure has it cheaper parts offsetting the obviously expensive ones.

Ha,I would gladly pay $100 a month for that speed

$5 boo hoo.

Try paying $134 a month here for ISDN, cause no cable or DSL. :P

I would easily pay $100 a month for that.

Most definatly i'd pay for ool if it was double the cost i pay 179.00 for my buisness class cable now thats only 3/1. yeah i don't have to worry about caps and can have as many dchp addys as needed along with 5 static ips. But there speed is the best in the states.I've read a few hooror story statments but it seems all isp's get them.I saw someone complaining about rr buisness class and i've never had a problem.
