I wish Verizon was over here....or maybe roadrunner, but yeah, Verizon DSL would be nice. 1500/384 for 30$ a month is a good deal. |

| It's finally good...
It's finally good to see the benefits of competition.
I have always wanted the 1.5 down, but going from 39.99/mo to 59.99/mo, I couldn't justify the increase for the jump in bandwidth.
Now I can, especially since the price is now a decrease. And even if they claim I'm too far away to get the full 1.5, I will save $5 a month and that will be like 1-1/2 months free, compared to current pricing.
For those that are wondering, I was an early adopter when the price was 39.99, then it went up to 49.99, so I hoped I wouldn't get my price raised, and said nothing in hopes they wouldn't notice.
Yea Verizon! Now just waiting on the line check!

And as for the people who could never get Verizon DSL in the first place, this news means absolutely nothing. Verizon's upgrades are completely and totally pointless if I can't get their service. You don't want Verizon. Their customer service is useless. If you're lucky enough to get the service running, it's fine. But don't ever try to change anything or move your account. They'll give you the run-around like crazy, tell you lie after lie, then stall and hope you go somewhere else. They are not interested in your business. They tell you to wait six days for your old line to clear, then say you have to wait 12 more days while they "prep" your new line, then tell you to wait 3 days after that to call them, then say if you're not connected by then, call them back after another 8 days. If not connected by then, well, start the process over again. That's what happened to me after being told that moving my account to a new line would be "no problem at all." After a week of waiting, then hours on the phone, they finally and gleefully cancelled my account and told me to go somewhere else. |

| Verizon re-sellers are also upgrading
As I was reading this thread I decided to check my DSL provider (AceDSL) who is re-selling Verizon's lines and guess what... They are now offering as their base package Live Plus which is $49.95 @ 1600/128 incl a static IP adr to customers that are less than 12000 feet from the CO. I called them up and sure enough ... no problem, they say. I am currently paying the same so I do not get the price break, but for me it is totally worth it. So if you are using a Verizon re-seller call them up and see what they say.

In the meantime, cable companies have been expanding high speed service in areas that DSL providers won't touch. If Verizon doesn't get with the program here, then they will go the way of AOL in very short order, especially if cable companies can provide a full featured service package containing cheap, reliable phone service and high speed internet access. People in my area (and quite a few others) have been dumped their second phone lines in droves once cable modems became available. If cable companies continue to expand into telecom the way they have been, then its lights out for the phone companies. -- Pissed off at traitorous, ungrateful musicians? Don't just boycott them! | reply to pnh102 Yup, here in Worcester, Ma only about half the city is elgible for DSL. Earlier today I called and asked if they have any plans to upgrade the rest of the city and make it in reach of DSL (2 years ago I was told Verizon was planning on making DSL availabe to 90% of their customers within 2 years), they replied there are no plans for any sort of expansion of the service. The only way this helps me is if Charter feels they need to be competitive with Verizon and drop the price from their outragous $59.95 for 1500/128. |

| reply to Bhhhhaaaa I've had Verizon DSL for over a year without any problems after switching from RoadRunner (which had many problems in the 3 months I did have it.)
I'm moving in a month and called about switching the line, I was also told it would take 4 days for the line to clear, then 4 more days to prep the new line. Verizonvictim is correct for the most part. |

You don't want Verizon DSL because their billing dept. is a joke..I've been fighting with them for over a year to correct charges that appear on my bill suddenly and everytime they state they've corrected it even gave me a confirmation # that it's been corrected etc. When i get my next bill still those charges appear. If i could have switched service i would have along time ago but i can only get Verizon DSL where i am now but luckily i'm moving and the new place has Comcast so well give them a try. |

You would think! but we have to cop to it and admit that on a day in early May, an ILEC did things right. Wish they were here in DSL wasteland. |

... well, they have 1600/384 but that's the SOHO option that costs $99 and that's a bit steep for me and especially considering the small difference. I wish they would do it too ... but I'll take what I can get.
