| iOS 6 has some kinks to work out I cannot get some of the apps (like passbook) to work and it is very unstable on my Verizon iPhone 4.
I plan on buying the iPhone 5 but I have to wait for November 30th to roll around as that is my upgrade eligibility date. -- I wish I still lived in Iowa; Everything there from rent and groceries to Cable TV is much cheaper in Iowa (especially with an overbuilder in town). |

MPScanPremium join:2001-08-24 Boston, MA | Main Issue The main issue here is that Apple, under Jobs, never let unfinished stuff out the door.
Yes, they may have released some iOS versions that omitted functionality in the beginning (e.g., cut and paste), but when they did something, they made sure it was 100% complete, polished, and simple easy to use.
This iOS 5 Google Maps to iOS6 Apple Maps is arguably the first time an Apple product has actually moved backwards.
Steve Jobs would not be happy. -- When judgment day comes, I'm confident I will end up in a place that's quite comfortable, very well deserved, and truly reflects how I strive to live my life. It's amusing certain groups feel the need to tell me their place will be better than mine. |

| reply to Rob I agree, this disaster of a OS wouldn't have seen the light of day if Jobs was still alive. Now I have to go through loops to get back my iOS 5 back. That, or just go back to using a BB. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

koitsuPremium,MVM join:2002-07-16 Mountain View, CA kudos:19 | Ship it!!! It seems to me that Apple simply shipped this crap w/out doing actual testing in each demographic/region. For some regions -- like Japan -- maps (transit, tram, et.c) are incredibly important, much moreso than here in the US. To give folks some idea how absolutely broken this is for the Japanese:
If you don't have any familiarity with Japanese culture and Japanese lifestyle/environment/demographics then the above article will read to you as nothing more than "map accuracy problems". Sadly it's a lot more than that. For example, how Narita is entirely gone (Narita is the main international airport in Japan; you have to fly in there to arrive from overseas), and how in that one region there's Chinese and Korean both shown alongside Japanese (maybe Apple designed that part for people like me, who can read Chinese and Korean but Japanese not so well. Korean reads Jidori, whatever that is...).
Stuff like this really chaps my ass. I might live in North America but lots of my colleagues, friends, etc. live overseas (some of which used to live near me but have since relocated). So it upsets me almost as much as it does them. -- Making life hard for others since 1977. I speak for myself and not my employer/affiliates of my employer. |

RRedlineRated RPremium join:2002-05-15 Williamsport, PA | yawn Yet ANOTHER Apple hate fest. Maybe we should just create a forum devoted solely to bashing all things Apple?
I've been using iOS 6 for a week now, and it is not bad at all. It certainly isn't a drastic change, and it probably doesn't deserve to be called version 6 (5.5 maybe?).
As for the maps, it's not as bad as people are making it out to be. It really isn't. And it will all get fixed.
That said, I agree that Google Maps is better. The iOS version just didn't have turn-by-turn, which is a very useful function that really should be included on every smart phone. I actually have been using the Garmin app ($40) on my iPhone, and it works very well. In fact, it works better than either Google or Apple because it doesn't require data. All the map data is stored on the device, so it is fast, works in the boonies, and doesn't use as much power.
It's only because Apple has such a loyal base, and is so successful, that people feel like they need to bash them at every chance they get. Just look at the names in this thread and then the names in the dozen other Apple threads in the past week. It's the same damned people who feel the need to remind us how crappy Apple, iPhones, and iOS 6 are.
That said, I like my iPhone 5 so far. It's not a whole new experience, and it might be a long time before the next big thing comes out. Android has improved at a faster rate than iOS 6 has, that's for sure. Then again, it NEEDED to improve because prior to 4.0, it was a buggy, clunky mess. I wouldn't expect any drastic improvements from Google or Apple in the near future. I'm sure their cloud services will be a major focus for improvement. -- One nation, under Zod! |
