Yeah, just who does Apple think they are by defending their patent.

Samsung has to mitigate that 3 Billion somehow

I wonder if we will get patent reform out of this.

You mean a rectangle with rounded edges? Yeah that's patent worthy. I had wood blocks as a kid that had rounded edges, of only I patented the shape...

+1. Apple is just defending patents they own. No matter what you think of them.

I wonder what the ifanboys would say...

If Apple went into the tv or car business, got some patents, and then suddenly you can only buy the $5000 Apple tv or the $100,000 Apple car?

Re: good...

actually it's supposed to matter what we think. if the system as a whole is working correctly and enough people pressure their elected representation the laws can be changed. however due to the $$ being spread around sadly in effect you're statement is correct. the law is what it is and even though it is horribly broken it won't be fixed any time soon.

Sarcasm noted. Don't like what Apple was able to patent? Blame the patent system not Apple.

They have patents on things that are prior art. Have you ever seen a phone with sharp corners? Nope, they are all rounded...
Some patents are retarded and many are issued without even doing checks on whether the things already exist. Some time ago a guy patented the wheel. Yes, that's right. The patent was issued for a "circular transportation facilitation device"...

They are all in line at the Apple store until tomorrow for the Iphone5, the car and TV will have to wait until next week

They would buy them, and then buy them again in two years when their contract is up and they can get the new iCar for only $20,000!

Better.. companies? You really think that Apple is a "better" company?

I highly doubt it.

I blame both. The Patent Office for granting such a ludicrously broad patent, and the holder for abusing such to stem competition because an icon looks just a little too similar - though this is not to be confused with trademarks suits such as that by Sony against Clearwire. Let's be honest, that logo for Clearwire DID look pretty darn similar to Sony's Ericsson logo.
