Took wrong courses in college - should have taken patent law

Looks like I took the wrong body of study in graduate school. Instead of Information Systems and Accounting, I should have gone to law school and specialized in patent law. They have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Patent Exhaustion

Ridiculous. If chip makers do not indemnify the buyers of their LTE chips, then what's the use of getting a license from Samsung? No one is going to buy chips from Intel or Qualcomm if Samsung is just going to turn around and sue them.

Sad.

And they will be right to do so...

...if Apple uses unlicensed (either directly or through the chipset manufacturer) Samsung tech in the handset.

I would...

If I were Samsung, I would sue them for....for...a billion dollars! But no court would ever give that big of an award, would they>

Apple started this crap. If Apple didn't sue Samsung none of this would be happing. I'm happy Samsung will give Apple a taste of it's own medicine. Let's see how more IPhones Apple sells when they're limited to 3G.

Why not sue over the iPad?

Doesn't the new iPad already have LTE? Why doesn't Samsung sue based on that?

I love it!

Give Apple a taste of their own medicine! How's that taste? Bitter?

Even IF that ends up being the case, Apple will just convince buyers that 3G is better for them. There is nothing the Apple marketing department can't sell.

Don't see this ending well for Samsung or wireless carriers

What do you think will happen if wireless carriers are forced to block Apple from their advanced network? Do you think the FCC will take that lightly? I doubt it.

Besides, I'm sure Apple doesn't just use LTE technology without some sort of license, of which Samsung gets a portion of the royalties.

Wheel Barrow

I picture some place a wheel barrow of money that just gets pushed back and forth from rooms marked, Samsung, Apple and Google.

Re: Wheel Barrow

The problem nobody gets in all of this cheerleading is the fact that the wheebarrow full of money is coming from our pockets and being laundered through the judicial system. This just sucks!

Nothing will happen. There are a myriad of other phones out there besides iphones...but then again all of the iSheep and Apple out there will try to convince you that there are only iphones being used in the world.

If the FCC were to step for in Apple like you think...what kind of message do you think that would send?

It would be saying that the US government is giving the "OK" for Apple to violate patents with out repercussions.

Re: Patent Exhaustion

In my area 3G is just as good. AT&T LTE is 5x5 here and not any better than 3G in real-world use.

why not sue now and get a ban on iPhone 5 sales?

I don't understand why Samsung doesn't sue Apple now to begin the process of an iPhone 5 and iPad ban? Is it more painful to Apple to wait or is it more of a bluff?
