RobIn Deo speramus.Premium join:2001-08-25 Kendall, FL kudos:3 | Good.. now let's update the DNC... Time to update the DNC to stop unwanted text spams. For those living in South Florida, how many are receiving the "We buy Junk Cars. Comparros Carros" spam multiple times a day? All from different numbers.

quote: The Federal Trade Commission receives complaints from around the nation for such unwanted text messages, said Mitch Katz, a spokesman for the Federal Trade Commission. But the FTC can't do anything, even if people are on the national Do Not Call registry, he said.
"Text messages are not covered by the Do Not Call law,'' Katz said. "Robo calls are covered but not text messages."

 | Dish will claim they didn't do it. Dish is probably going to claim they are not the ones that made the calls because the calls didn't come from direct Dish employees. It's like all the Dish network spam that you get that does not come directly from Dish. It's done by companies that get paid a commission to sell Dish services. So even if this is the case the FTC should still smack Dish around because even if they say they didn't authorize it they don't mind taking the business and paying to get the business. -- I do not, have not, and will not work for AT&T/Comcast/Verizon/Charter or similar sized company. |

Dish cannot claim ignorance or of being a victim. A simple clause in their contracts with third parties forbidding them to violate the DNC and/or failing to honor requests to not be contacted again, with a "shall hold harmless and defend fully at [contractor's] expense, and return all monies paid" would make clear such conduct is not permissible nor will it be tolerated by Dish. By not having such requirements and/or not policing their contractors and affiliate makes them complicit in the activity. -- "Dance like the photo isn't being tagged; love like you've never been unfriended; and tweet like nobody is following." |

 | Pass it on to the consumer We all know how this is most likely to play out: Dish will settle with the FTC for an (currently) unspecified sum of money, and then customers will see their bills go up as part of regular "Rate Hikes" to "match inflation".
I don't know... my price with Dish has remained pretty static for the past few years (It's HBO and other premiums who like to hike their prices ludicrously. I remember when I used to pay $6 for HBO AND CINEMAX (Same network, for the record), and now it's jumped to $14 for just HBO. I dropped Cinemax) so maybe they won't.
However, based on past observations, I do expect that to be the end result. |

Why doesn't the FTC go after Heather and her outfit instead, they make a heck of a lot more calls than the Dish Network. |

 | Rachel from Card Services Great, but at least Dish is a legitimate company. If you ask them to remove you from their marketing list, they likely will. Now, if the freaking do not call people would go after the real offenders, like "Hi, this is Rachel from Card Servies", then I would say the FTC is doing a good job. |
