For the legal side, what is the campaign contribution limit, and what happens if you send too many $10 text messages? |

Do these recipients sell/rent/giveaway your phone number to third parties?
Since political calls are exempt from the Do Not Call list, I think I'll pass on donating anything through my somewhat semi-anonymous cell phone number. |

For the legal side, what is the campaign contribution limit, and what happens if you send too many $10 text messages? Haven't you been paying attention? There isn't a limit. |

And the story makes it clear only a % of your donation will make it to the political campaign. A healthy chunk will go to the carrier and the group that processes the transaction.

 | Contributions By Text And if somebody has a spoofing app, could one not rack another user's bill up by using their cell number and flood the coffers of either candidate? |
|
 | Restrictions? I wonder if there will be a lawsuit about this method of contribution allowing to skirt restriction on non-citizen contributions (see »www.fec.gov/ans/answers_general.···ntribute ). Unless carriers will have to verify eligibility somehow, by more than texting back "Are you a citizen? Text Yes".

| Amazing I always find it funny when politics mix with the private company's it is instant results when it benefits them.
Maybe they both should concentrate on you know the bigger issues like the economy, jobs, poverty, you know real problems with our country instead of getting more money to run attack adds 23 hours a day. I don't think I have seen a add that tells us why should we keep any of them in office instead of getting each side so angry at the other party it's useless to get anything done in this country. |

Re: Restrictions? We already have a Supreme Court ruling that allows non-citizens (corporations and unions) to make campaign contributions by way of the waves of "paid for by the friends of..." political commercials we are bombarded with. |

Re: Contributions By Text Spoofing would not work in this situation. The carriers know which number a text is truly being sent from, the "reply-to" field typically used in the SMS PDU for spoofing would not work. |

Re: How does texting money work? Limit is "$10 per text, $50 per month and $200 in total for one candidate or campaign. Donations are prohibited from foreigners, people under 18 or corporations, which could also mean corporate phone accounts."
"Typically, these fees can take 30 percent to 50 percent of the money sent over text, industry experts told the Federal Election Commission earlier this year." |

Good luck with that. My first kind of thought too.
Most of those guys are so rich already and take so much from big companies, why should I give up my hard earned money? If they actually did some campaigning instead of accusing each other like they do maybe, but otherwise I wouldn't was the time it would take to send that text! -- The Firefox alternative. »www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/ |
