Why the Cap...

Its stupid to have a 150 Mbps speed with a 250 gig cap....Next it will be "A Gigabit speed but with a 10 gig cap for $100 with overages of $1 per gig"

Most Canadian ISPs have caps well under 100 GB a month.

Lets see how many hours it will take to hit that cap.

Depends on the plan. Bell/Rogers/Telus do. But comparative plans by independents do not. Rogers 28/1 plan has a cap of 80GB($48), Teksavvy is 300GB($46/mo), unlimited is a bit more.

Sad state of internet in a lot of Canada from what I hear. Kind of stuff that makes you even more scared about data caps here.

Not really. It's only a big issue in Ontario and Quebec - specifically, areas that have Bell Canada as an incumbent telco - and a non-issue in Western and Atlantic Canada.

My net connection is from Start Communications using Cogeco coax. I also have a 300GB limit.

A good % of the population of Canada lives in those areas do they not? So I'm to sure about the "only" part.

If ten million Canadians are a small enough percentage of the population to ignore, so be it. If it were me, I wouldn't be so "sure" about what I know when I found out I was ignoring a third of the population of Canada.

It's equivalent to leasing a Ferrari and only being allowed to drive it for three miles every month.

As if that somehow makes this cap any less excusable?

"Hey, at least that Kim Jong-un guy isn't Hitler! Hitler killed more people in his concentration camps than North Korea does!"

I pay $80 a month and get 500 gig.
100/10 and 500 gig for $80, good for my needs.

I feel like this is the right time to point out that it is entirely possible to blow through 250GB in less than 24 hours with a 150Mbps connection with very little difficulty - and that's without even counting BitTorrent (before someone here obligatorily posts such).

The cappers have something in common

Notice that it's the big content owners (Rogers, Shaw and Bell) with the caps? I wonder why that is...

to protect legacy tv revenue, and I understand in Canada, Rogers also have video store like Blockbuster in the US? That doesn't help.

Network management policy

Our network management policy is being phased out. The process has already begun and will be completed by the end of 2012. Customers can visit www.rogers.com/traffic to find out if Rogers has removed the Internet Traffic Management Policy in their area.

Rogers have closed down all their video rental locations. And no it's not just content providers who double as ISPs that have caps here in Canada. Virtually every large MSO here has caps on their internet service.

It's a Hitron Modem, not Citron!

A Citron is a type of citrus fruit...
