| so? IIRC, the BD site said they'd give you the antenna for free? if they charged a monthly fee for that, you could buy an unrestricted atsc usb tuner for under $50 outright..
I think the point being was if you have access to the airwaves, then streaming isn't so bad.. however the broadcasters apparently don't see it like that... but this genie is WAY out of the bottle.. you can find cable-tv channels streaming in grey market websites besides the authorized streaming which, if you have a cable subscriber's PW can get into..
nevertheless.. the revenue model will have to more heavily rely on advertising.. since they're geting more eyeballs (legally or not), the ad rates will just have to go up.. |

Lets say that I live in Baltimore. There is an Orioles game tonight and the game is blacked out locally so they will sell more tickets. All these Aereo and BarryDriller sites are available. I will just use one of these services instead of going to the game and watch it from a stream that is being provided from another city.
That is if I am understanding this technology correctly. |

Mullica Hill, NJ | well in this case you have no choice but to seek other routes. Even if you have to use illegal streams the MLB is denying you the ability to watch legally via local channels. Aereo I think is only available in NYC... not that a proxy and lying about the address can't solve that.

I understand that they are only in NYC currently. But I think the law suits are trying to head off further roll out for the reasons I posted. The game was just a single example. There are a lot more. |

The service is supposed to allow you to get your OTA broadcast at home, at work, or traveling out of market but still resided in the target market.
The only way that you'd be able to get your blacked out game is if you tuned in to an out of market station that was showing the game, but you aren't suppose to have an out of market station. Now if someone in another market allows you to use their stream, or they re-stream it to one or more people, then that's a different issue. |

For devils advocates' sake if people could give a rats ass about the intellectual property of 1st run movies (in the movie theater), do you really think with broadband above 10mbits they'll care about MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA lock on their broadcast rights?
The internet is no walled garden of eden anymore, if it ever was..
BTW, BarryDriller's site seems to look at your isp's Ip location so it would send you the feed (in theory) of your city, and if that's blacked out, you're SOL for that site..
Nevertheless, you'll be bound to find it somwhere on the internet.. and if not live.. on some RSS feed for replay..
I just find it amusing the broadcasters think they'll be able to keep this genie in the bottle for much longer.. with lawsuits no less.. |

If CDs were invented today, they'd have region codes and DRM.
If radio was invented today, it would be patented so that only one company could make transmitters or receivers, the signal would be encrypted and you'd need to pay a monthly fee to be able to own a radio.
Sure, the entertainment industry has tried to crush new technologies that they didn't like in the past, but back then the US government wasn't on their payroll and copyright law hadn't yet been turned into a minefield where one wrong step costs you everything. |

MLB enforces no blackouts and Aereo/BarryDriller won't get you access to MASN where almost all Orioles games air (outside of those on FOX/ESPN or MASN simulcasts aired some weekends on WJZ). |

You're missing the point.. any media which broadcasts "freely" on the airwaves or cable-tv can be re-streamed online or "copied" for later playback.. where the content originates is beside the point. |
